S&P Dow Jones Indices, a global leader in providing benchmark indices to the financial markets, will add cryptocurrency indexes in 2021, according official press release of December 3. To take this step the company has partnered with crypto tax services and data provider Lukka, a U.S. , to launch the indexes, covering 550 cryptocurrencies. “With digital assets such as cryptocurrencies becoming a rapidly emerging asset class, the time is right for independent, reliable and user-friendly benchmarks,” Peter Roffman, global head of innovation and strategy at S&P DJI, stated in the press release. The release did not state which specific cryptocurrencies will be covered or the methodology behind their selection if it is not based on market capitalization. The launch of Crypto Indexes is in line with the latest Wall Street’s commitment to embrace Bitcoin and altcoins, highlighting interest to crypto asset ecosystem from the traditional financial services.
