What do you think? Are the oil producers just out to line their pockets, and screw us over?

I think they are greedy, and opportunistic. They have the supply, we have the demand. We've shown that we'll pay anything. That's just the way it goes. It's sad RisingSun
Tell me about it, they have the supply, but they just keep jacking up the prices until it got to this
I don't know if I'll be able to fill my tank up if it keeps rising QUOTE(Tommy_Gun @ Aug 8 2006, 11:20 PM) Tell me about it, they have the supply, but they just keep jacking up the prices until it got to this I don't know if I'll be able to fill my tank up if it keeps rising Ah I know what you mean. Thank goodness our car isn't a big SUV or anything. It's a Saab, quite fuel efficent
Soon we'll all be riding our bikes and have forgotten all about our babies ( by that I mean our cars )

In some of the beach cities around the area, gas is in the $3.50 range and that's for the cheapest kind! There was an article on MSN about oil companies and the money they're raking in. One fact that was pointed out is that well, the oil companies are doing their job which is making money for their shareholders. only we're not that lucky to be one! Why don't we all buy mopeds or bicycles? But then again, we're too petroleum hungry! QUOTE(bigd11 @ Aug 9 2006, 01:27 PM) Somethings to consider.. my opinion is that crude oil prices are a bit of BS but: Here are some facts: 1) Most of the people who are whining about gas prices are the people who paid $50,000 on hummers and SUVs when gas was $1.50/gallon. Now that 60 mile daily commute is not nearly as fun as it once was. I still fill up every 2 weeks on a 30 mile commute with a 32mpg vehicle and I am not complaining. These people deserve to go broke. These vehicles were not only a poor investment but also detrimental to the environment and financially irresponsible. It's a damn house note or more for a car payment. We aren't too far off from rationing gas like the early 1980s.. boy I am going to make a mint selling mine to these people. There was a guy at work (before he was canned) who drove 2 hours one way every day to go to work. He would whine and complain to the point of being annoying because he was paying so much in gas. That would be considered a moron. 2) During the 1979 energy crisis, gasoline was about the same price as it is now when adjusted for inflation. You can't get things for free all the time. It was only a matter of time. 3) Congressmen in the United States are more concerned about themselves than the people in the country PLUS for them to do anything productive, it would require them to stop the bipartisian BS.. which they won't do. They do not see that the answer that so many of us smarter people can see very clearly. They are too busy trying to come up with solutions of problems that we do not care about just to get them re-elected. ANY ONE who votes or acts along bipartisian lines have no moral ethics because they do not care about the people. They will vote whatever that party votes and instead of analyzing problems to find solutions together.. it is instead the us vs them approach. 4) There are no real incentives at the present time for opportunists to seize the moment to produce alternative energy sources that do not require crude oil or the manufacturing of crude oil. Personally, I just think we need one big ass solar panel in the desert. All that real estate with just a bunch of sand. 5) Up until now, car manufacturers did not care about making vehicles more efficient outside of Toyota who already saw the need in their home lands and took advantage of it. Now, they reap the benefits of one of the only car manufacturers who can post a profit. After all, we are about a year from getting post-100mpg vehicles. 6) This being my personal pet peave, the crude oil prices are directly controlled by high roller future traders. It is not so much controlled by true supply and demand than it is humanistic emotion. A congressmen could get assassinated or the Florida Marlins could win the world series and oil would spike $3 a barrel. THEY ARE NOT CONTROLLED BY THE OIL COMPANIES. 7) When gasoline goes up 10c a gallon, you pay approximately $1.50 more to fill up on a 15 gallon tank (I have a 13.1 tank and get 360 miles per tank on average). So if gas increases you pay: $3 gallon = $45 $4 gallon = $60 $5 gallon = $75 $6 gallon = $90 (european countries and Canada pay this much) 8) Oil companies have invested a lot of money into pipes and refinaries. With so much that they do, I think people should be investing in each company's stock and helping the cause and not whining about the price of gasoline. Oil companies deserve to reap the benefits now. The only reason why they are making billions of dollars is because of those future traders manipulating the price. Oil companies only make cents on the dollar per gallon (I believe the BP CEO said 5 cents per gallon). The rest is budgetted for the actual costs to pump and ship the oil barrels not to mention the markup by actual gas retailers to make a profit and the state taxes that we pay (I think 14 to 21 cents in Tennessee). It could be a lot worse. The only reason why people are complaining so much now and the media is eating it up is because we've had it made for so long while other countries have been paying a lot of money for the gas that we paid so little for. A year from now, no one will even care if it is $3 a gallon. People complained when it hit $2.50 but now that would seem like a bargain.
I don't believe there is any real reason for the price of oil to be where it is today. OPEC is a big monopoly and it seems everytime there is possible way for someone to increase the price, then it is done.
Should hit over $4 a gallon soon , already has for premium in CA... Read in USA Today to that a study projects it to hit over 5.50 a gallon in a year..

Read in USA Today to that a study projects it to hit over 5.50 a gallon in a year.. Time to start walking I never believe Wall Street Analysts. It's all media frenzy. I don't personally believe it will hit $5.50. I think it will peak at $3.50 to $4 as a nation-wide average. California will always have higher gas because of the liberal idiots in office and their desire for high salaries/tax.
$3.2 a gallon, is that how much you pay for gasoline in US?
In Lithuania we pay ~$4.9/gallon, well, prices for gasoline are generally much higher in Europe. I think it's time to pull out the 90 miles per gallon carb.s etc. the technology is there they just bury it.
I don't know how much a galoon actually is, but in Brazil we're paying around U$1,40 for the liter of gasoline.
Can't actually compare

Wow gas is 2.88 a gallon today, what a bargain

Yea. The gas prices are full of BS. Starting to picc me off.
Try do a google search for "Fuel Freedom International"
It'll reduce your gas prices.
No worries though, soon we'll run out of oil anyway
Well, not before all the corporations make big cash. I just wished I'm one of the corporations that make big cash.
Combined profits of Exxon-Mobil,BP and Shell in 2001-2005 was around $ 252 billion.Oil will drive & dominate in the international economy for a while longer,i guess.

We are unlikely to see an announcement from an Oil company admitting they are linig their pockets and scewing consumers over.
Yesterday I saw gas at 3.09... which sounded pretty nice since a couple weeks ago it was in the 3.30's
