This flick is indeed part-Blair Witch with some psychological scares and then goes part-Alien plus LOTS of blood. It's a real messy movie.

We have 6 women outdoorsdy-types who decide to go do some cave exploring. They are reuniting after one of them had a very tragic accident a year earlier, an accident that is shown in the first 10mins and is disturbing. OK, so then it's a year later and these women get back together. Some brief character intro's to prove they know what the hell they are doing and blah, blah, blah, and then this one hits high-gear on the suspense and then later on the gore.

Seems one of our intrepid characters decides not to tell the rest of the crew they are actually exploring a cave that no one else had. WHAT COULD GO WRONG? tongue4.gif It's a good thing all 6 of the women are slim and athletic because there are some real claustrophobic moments in the cave that will make you squirm or say "no way in hell would I do THAT."

The cast is all unknown and all European and pretty good. Much better than your average collection of random victims thrown together. There are some seriously cheap-scares that will make you jump early in this one, followed by simply outright gore and trying to survive against a bunch of beasties who are in the cave and HUNGRY.

We get some serious kills that are plenty gruesome. We also have a compound fracture(that's when the bone breaks and sticks out side of the body, playa) that is an UGH! Plenty of eye-poking(even though the beasties are blind, they seem to hate it anyway), a beastie getting John Bobbit'd, some pretty good high-wire cavern-crossing with long falls, people-eating, tons of piled-up bones...FUN FUN FUN! biggrin.gif

This is a horror flick that has some scary moments besides all the sloppy blood-play going on. Much better than the average horror film of this genre as it is more than just a gore-fest, but gore-lovers will NOT Be disappointed either ohmy.gif Not so brutal or sadistic that you want to avoid this one with a date, but make sure she can handle lots of red-stuff all over the screen and some genuine scares. There is zero nudity, sex or even T@A, which is probably a good thing here even though some of the women are attractive. Combining very extreme violence(no, not the crap on Halloween or Friday the 13th, either) with some sex along the way can be real dicey and most filmmakers are better off just concentrating on either/or and not both.

PREVIEWS: It's about that time again.......SAW III's trailer ran and it's opening on Halloween just like Saw II did. How doe sit look? Well, cool, of course! Jigsaw is back(duh!) and he wants America to play a game and....GAME OVER! The trailer is like the first 2 in that it's real dark, the images zip along the screen faster than you can "see" them, etc., but it looks like there are some playas in this one who are REALLY going to die painfully. There's one guy with a ton of chains attached to him that reminds me of the classic scene in HELLRAISER. Could be a serious shredding there.

On the more serious side, there is a flick called Children of Men coming out about the world one generation from now and every female is infertile. The planet be dying. Riots, doom and gloom. But.....there is one teen who is actually pregnant and.......This looks like someone spent some serious time making it(or at the least the trailer) and might be a definite GO. An original story for once!

Oh this one looked great.

Saw I and II were both very good movies.

Thanks!

I was deciding if I should go see this or not... Think I am going to check it out now biggrin.gif

I love horror movies, always have, just have not been too impressed lately sad.gif
Hills have eyes was the latest "soso" movie I watched, only because the brutality of it that I found it was a decent flick lildevil.gif
Hostel... Well I expected a little more, although was great for the actors they had. I actually prefer sometimes to have the actors that are not so famliar... Sometimes you just cant forget some actors big roles, almost like they don't suit the film you are watching because you remember their character from the last great film they made...lol

Saw3.... Can't wait w00t2.gif

The way Saw 2 ended didn't make the 3rd seem too promising. I enjoyed Saw a lot more than I did Saw 2. As for The Descent, I have not yet watched the movie but Rotten Tomatoes seemed to have given it good reviews. Last night, it was a choice between Miami Vice and The Descent, but I chose Miami Vice because I enjoy Michael Mann's style of directing. I thought the scenery in the movie was absolutely gorgeous and the action scenes are very raw. But how are you going to make a Miami Vice movie and not use the original Miami Vice theme? Especially when Michael Mann was involved with the TV series!

The trailer in Saw III is all focused around Jigsaw and not his protege, so I think you may see more emphasis on him in this one than SAW II where he just basically got the hell beaten out of him for most of the movie. The trailer starts with him painting that jester-looking mannequin and then later showing it on a TV set.

I liked SAW better than the SAW II, but did II overall a lot. It was than I had expected considering it was made in like 6months start-to-last edit with a first-time director.

Halloween night? Yep, I'll be in the theater seeing it.

Was this one released in Europe before the USA? It would make sense because the cast/director/etc are all overseas and it's not unusual for Lion's Gate to wait and see how a flick does abroad before picking it up for US distribution. I did notice in the credits it was dated 2005 and not 2006.
