Soup made from the common bat has been found to possibly diminish the effects of bird flu, and the White House has announced that the National Institutes of Health will be enforcing twice-weekly consumption of bat soup by all Americans. NIH Enforcement Director General Emilio M. Vargas says that bats must be steeped for a minimum of 30 minutes, and the soup eaten in the morning when its effect is most pronounced. He warns that Americans will be “checked to be sure this is being done.”
McDonald’s has taken the lead among fast food chains, and plans to offer a new “McBat Cuppa” product as part of its breakfast menu. Other chains are expected to follow with their own products in a few days. Enforcement is to begin on Monday. Noncompliance will be punished by a mandatory year in federal prison, no matter the age of the violator.
