Was the person an MMG supporter? They won't be effected by the limits because it's very unlikely that anyone with a supporter account is going to spam everywhere.

That's probably what it is then. I wasnt paying any attention and it didnt seem like an obvious spammer so....

Only plain text counts towards the character limit. Anything within bbcode tags (included bold, colored, or formatted text) will not count towards the minimum character limit.

This is a banned post. Less than 20 characters. Should I report you?
Only kidding but you see what I mean.

But maybe this does not apply to people who have been here a long time...only people who are new. Once you fit in you don't have to worry about being warned or banned. You can do it right in their face and nothing will be done about it. Yet, if you are new you will have to tippy toe around here wondering constantly if you're doing something wrong. I don't think it's right but hey...it's not my forum either. I'm just a visitor who wants to be a member. All this person said was no...and he purposely broke the rule and one other person. If you had went on to report them, nothing would have been done about it anyway. I see this everywhere by the oldies. Who knows...I may even get a warning for stressing this point. Oh well.

There's no point in saying things that arent true. We don't care if someone has been here for 2 months of 2 years. If they decide to start causing problems, we arent just going to allow it. Also, this rules was made to stop spammers, not people having normal conversation.

Like Jason said, if you have been here for a long time, we know you arent just out to bump your post count. Look at the members who have been here going on 2 years. You dont get to stay here for 2 years if all you do is cause problems. If they post a 2 or 3 word response, we know it isn't just to bump up post count.

The only people who bother to bump their post counts at all are people who will more than likely end up as scammers anyway, since most people dont care how many posts you have.

It applies to ANYONE who spams this forum. We don't tolerate spam whether it's in the forum or PM. PM spam gets you banned instantly with no questions asked. Forum spam can too if they keep doing it.

People can do whatever they have to do here but don't junk up the forum with spam or anything like that.

We won't allow MMG to become like some of the others out there where it's the Wild West.

You consider one and two word posts spamming? Very interesting. I considered it just that, "one or two word posts." Spamming is sending unsolicated email, or in MMG case PM, to a group of people. In the case of one and two word posters, or Post Count Jackers as I call them, they are running up a post count for whatever personal reasons. One reason I can think of is this thing of getting paid for posting in some of these program threads. doh.gif

If they think that running up a post count will get them a stellar reputation, then they need to think again, b/c it's obvious that almost everyone here knows what these folks are up to. Just b/c someone has a high post count doesn't make them knowledgeable or have a stellar reputation. Well, I guess they would have a stellar rep as a Post Count Jacker. biggrin.gif

These type of posts are unacceptible, against the rules, and a complete waste of space. If anyone is caught doing this, you will not only be suspended or banned, but you will get ALL of your posts deleted and your post count reduced to zero.

If anyone sees people making useless posts like this, please report it immediately by clicking on the report button on the bottom left side of the person's post.

I couldn't agree more with this. Useless posts, paid to post people is totally unacceptible (not to say irritating, etc, etc, etc). Most of the cases are the same guys (scammers) using a proxy or an HTTP tunnel to hide/change the IP and post this nonsense.

People still find ways to get around whatever limitations you put in place. The bottom line is people need to be contributing useful posts, not pointless + incoherent spam.

Why not remove the post counts all together? That way people wouldn't be affected by how many post he got, and there won't be anyone spamming just to get his post count higher!

I think the date joined and the member # is a good way to judge. I've been here two years; rarely post. I've seen some that joined a couple of months ago and are labled "Moneymake Master" because of all the posts. Remember when scammers were trying to buy long time members ID's? It was for the posts; I think they just found another way to rack up lots of posts and a fake title now. Innocent people will follow them just based on that alone.

You don't blindly ban people for making short posts. We always look into it first. If someone has 500 posts with nothing but

"im in..............."
"looks good..."

Then it's obvious theyre a paid poster or spamming to raise their post count.

I really like the people who go through the threads and post "smooth surfing". Most aren't even members of the sites. They usually have a big banner with referral commissions.

paid posters know that they dont get paid well unless they do good posts.. so they make up bs or whatever to do good posts.. trust me i tried it about a week ago to check it out and ended up writin all kind of crazy stuff jus so i can write more than 5 word posts... Employers dont pay well for useless 1-3 word posts because there is growing competition between paid posting companies.. and hyip owners wont pick the boss who charges 10c for 1-3 word posts. apolagies for the lecture u probably already know this.

people who post "im in......""looks good" are only doing it to either express their thoughts in simplest form.. or tryin to raise their post count. Or simply bumping up the program's thread->more exposure on the forum->more chance of investment->member who is 'in' has higher chance of profiting.

Id say if a member had 75%+ posts 1-3 words.. i suppose a severe warning is fair.

Yes I agree with you, that's where we stand on the matter too for the most part. We just like like it when people create a new account then immediately begin to make 1-3 words posts all over the place in areas where it doesnt even make sense sometimes. lol yeh smooth surfin comes up once in a while in the hyip section.. suppose accidents happen or some paid posters just cant understand english. Its impossible to stop people creating new account and spamming because of the amount of proxies out there.. unless you have a large team of mods browsing the forums 24:7 for new members with bad first posts..

another thing i reckon..new members who signs up with a free email account should get 1 warning before a ban. This is until they reach say 50 posts / member for 2 months... then they get the normal treatement. It could cause new members to start spamming to get their post count up.. but they will soon get caught and kicked.
New members who have a paid email account i.e. @aol.com get same discipline as normal members.

its your call ..glad you understood what i was on about before..
