Another productive technique you can use is literally search your keyword in Google and then take the url of the top sites and plug them into Yahoo! Site Explorer...it will list all the sites linking to the competition, which will give you, if nothing else, an idea of what you are up against for top rankings.

I have found that the bast way is to look for sites that relate to your blog then visit these sites. Check to see what their ratings are then ask them to put your blog URL on their website. Since I have a blog about recipes for diabetics and I use artificial sweeteners I have got backlinks from some well and highly used websites. It just takes a simple email to do this. I also hold #1, #2 and sometimes #3 in Google when searching for just desserts for diabetics. Don't be afraid to ask a high ranking site to feature your URL. Much to my surprise, I even had my blog featured in the NY Times. I still haven't found out how they even got word of it, but it sure got a lot of traffic for a few days. Up in the high thousands. Maybe you can get someone to ask your hometown newspaper to feature your blog. Don't forget to put your links to your other blogs on each of your blogs.

Flood the web with articles of content. Think about it for a moment... Content makes the web go 'round. And when although the written word still reigns supreme on the 'Net, there are other "content" platforms that may also be effective for your niche like video marketing.

Or you can outsource and go to a site such as Fiver or Warrior forum and and pay someone to build you backlinks....at fiverr its only $5

You will use Social Media Optimization like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.. etc social networking websites. These websites have a large number of users, you will join them and post your link on their relevant post, it will helpful to increase your traffic.

There's heaps of ways to get backlinks some are easier than other but it's best to try and get a solid mix of all of them...

Everything from social bookmakrks, directories, direct link exchanges and forums... EVERYTHING!!

People use a lot of ways to get backlinks for their sites, sometimes they focus too much on backlinks that they forget what other techniques are for.
1. social bookmarks - some may give backlinks but some are great for traffic too (don't focus too much on just getting links here)
2. directories - some say it still works, some say not for them
3. articles - definitely a great way to talk about stuff related to your website and get links at the same time. interesting articles always get good traffic
4. pr - a great way to announce your product and services and get links too. it is one of the ways how people can find your site
....and a whole lot more. I only do most of the stuff I mentioned though

The ways you are talking about certainly works. They just need to be implemented correctly and..here you go. However I would also rely on my own linking program rather than someone else's. Content (value) is the basis. If you get it right, it will be easier for you to get backlinks as people like to link to sites of value.

Well best way is to build back links and promote your websites on other sites / blogs etc .. If you can afford consultants then you may go for them, but for a normal promotion, i think backlinks building should be your first step.

Off page SEO techniques are really beneficial for back-links creation.You can try to get links from do-follow sites that is first priority of Google while deciding PR.

In my personal opinion there is no 'best' way to build backlinks. But there is a rule: Only build backlinks from related niche websites. Avoid link farms all together and so does black hat techniques. The type of link building method depends on what your site is about. Press release for example best suits business type of websites.

I prefer guest blogging to get more backlinks. It is more effective and I have got good results from it.

Very good keep on guest blogging, but remember that Google has shown his clear planing that in 2013 they will penalize blogs that are doing spammy guest blogging. So, avoid Spam guest blogging to keep yourself successful in that.
