An informative article in today’s eMarketer shows that Twitter followers are more likely to induce advocacy and future purchases than those on Facebook.According to their data, 37% of respondents were more likely to purchase from a brand after following them on Twitter as opposed to only 17% of those that “like” a brand on Facebook.
It is absolutely not surprising , and I ascertain one fact and the reason is simple: Twitter is a unique yet powerful platform that has a capability to attract an audience receptive to marketing messages much more than Facebook.
A great quote that I wish I could say I came up with at this point in time is something like this: “Facebook is for the people you know while Twitter is for those you desire or wish to know.”
Facebook is not a good platform for delivering news and other marketing stuff. The default front page view does not show a user every post from all of those in their network but rather an abbreviated feed that Facebook feels is most relevant to them.
Secondly, the function of setting up lists, which are an excellent way to segment content on Facebook and could provide value in the service as a news aggregator, is highly underused and is some thing that makes an online marketer feel itchy .
This is not to say that Facebook should be neglected, because there’s definitely value in reaching a large audience with marketing information. Social media is a quality versus quantity play and nowhere is it more apparent for brands than on Twitter

For me Twitter is better. You only have to use few charaters to show to the world what you want to say. And it is less confusing thean facebook.

I use twitter to drive quick traffic to my blog. I prefer the limit of 140 characters as you then have to be a bit ingenious in your approach. you can't just say "buy this" or "read this" because that's lame.
I enjoy writing hooks and getting people to then be curious enough to click through and see my site. Facebook allows you to go into more depth, giving people more chance to think about your product or site before they click through.
Personally though, I don't use Facebook so I can't comment too much about that. But I do use Twitter as a traffic source and it does work; however you either need some very tragetted followers or you can play a numbers game and work over a few months to a year to gain a vaguely interested army of 10,000 followers, of which maybe 1-5% may click through to purchase your product(s) or simply check out your site.

I think that Twitter and Facebook should just be used differently. With Twitter, you should aim to gain as many followers as possible. It's fairly easy to get thousands and thousands of followers. Facebook on the other hand, I find, is a lot more personal, and you can target people a lot more, so you don't need as many friends to promote your products or business.

Hi, I think both of facebook and twitter are good to any user.
I have a facebook group for my site which gets a feed from my sites twitter account. I use the twitter firefox plug in which allows me to tweet from the address panel in firefox, so I can got o a topic type a little comment in front of the address for it and hit the tweet button. This means I'm getting coverage on both twitter and facebook.
I always get a hit of traffic after the post hits facebook, mostly search engines, but it's helped my ranking in google quite a bit.

many webmasters and SEO experts have considered facebook and twitter as the best social network marketig websites, they are the best websites to promote your online business ! although the trick to both is unique and different, at twitter you have to increase the number people to join you by following them, but facebook is much more unique, i use both and have felt facebook quite comfortable, but have also achieved good traffic from twitter too on facebook you can create a fan page for your profile and increase the friend lists !
good luck !

To me, both are important. I like to use Facebook Fanpage and link to Twitter. I also like to use Twitter and link to Fanpage.
However, some advertising networks restricted advertising on Twitter, I have no clue about that. Facebook has one more advantage that good to put into use. That is if you can use Facebook Viral Script, for increasing visitors as your main, you are good to go.

Hi, I think both of facebook and twitter are good to any user.
I personally don't like twitter. It's signal to noise ratio is all wrong. Most messages are worthless, time chomping crap. They pollute the message stream so completely that your message is just lost in the noise. Remember the first thing you have to do in marketing is get someone's Attention so you can see if you can discover or generate Interest. Because of the noise, getting attention is very difficult.

I think Twitter has a simpler design than Facebook, when you get on facebook its easy to get distracted. Like being on chat with friends, looking at other peoples walls, etc. Twitter is more to the point.

I would say that due to the fact that you can search on twitter the tweets ... you will have more followers interested in your account ( which might be business type ) rather then friends followers ( which Facebook is all about ). So if I follow some one who rights about hosting ... this could due the fact that I'm interested in something like that. On Facebook I generally added my friends only.

Instead of trying to find out which is the best out of the two, why not combine them both so you can get the best of both worlds. Both websites have now the option to link themselves with other websites. Facebook, digg, stumble, twitter etc. Whenever you post in one of those platform like twitter, and if you are linked to your facebook then your twitter post will show up in your facebook wall. it's like doing it both all at once.

I much prefer twitter for business! because I just find Facebook uses so much of my time; but that’s great if I just want to socialize. I think Facebook is a huge time waster which is not bad thing if you’re just socializing.
Twitter gives me so much more quality response to my questions and posts. Also with twitter I can spend 30% less of my time but get 50% more response to my posts. I get about an average of 235 hits per day to my blog from twitter.
For me Twitter is more for business and Facebook is more social and friendly.
I live in Japan but I’m English so Facebook is great to chat with friends who are so far from me.

Twitter is just one of the marketing tools one should use. My belief is that if you are trying to reach a wide range of people, use both Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn for that matter too. The advantage of Twitter is you have to grab people's attention and you get better at it using Twitter.

Never got into Twitter. I see it's marketing potential, but man, I just can't even begin to think of spending days and nights trying to market a Twitter account. Twitter literally has a huge number of accounts.... kudos to anybody that has the patience enough to set-up a decent twitter account, seriously.

They can both be used effectively for business. You can get your micro message out instantly using Twitter and follow specific people in your niche who seem to be like minded. With Facebook you can create a fanpage about your business or product and write separate "notes" which should be set for public, this allows all of your FB "notes" to be indexed and highly ranked by Google for your chosen title keywords and anchor text links.
