So, can someone tell me from experience of first-hand knowledge of how many search engine back-links you need to sell a .com domain for at least $3,000?

And how long does it take to achieve the amount of links you need by working how many hours a day?

In the domain name marketplace, most domains sell for the quality of the actual name, rather than how many backlinks it has. If you are talking about selling an entire website than that will completely depend on more than just backlinks. It will depend on the niche that it falls in, the keywords and phrases it ranks well for in Google as well as any income it is making.

In this age of SEO, backlinks do not matter that much. Mostly it depends on which niche the domain name is based on and how catch it is. If you are to sell a site most important thing is the content. Good content will always draw traffic and retain them. But a site with lots of backlinks and poor content not perform well at all.

If you mean by selling a domain name "Domain flipping" you should not look at backlinks but is more about how much traffic that keyword gets from search engines, or (the most important) if the domain name is short & brandable.

I don't like domain flipping, I don't believe in that market. I prefer website flipping.

So to sell your website for $3000 you need the most important factor: EARNINGS. If your website is not earning a cent, it will be difficult.

Then, you should look at the traffic (organic traffic, in this case the backlinks are important).

It is not just number of backlink that determine the traffic in your site and associated $$ generated per month. First of all the back links should be from PR6 and above sites. Also the back links should be from your niche market. If you buy links from a link farm then Google will ban you. Best way to get back-links is to publish articles in article publishing sites on your niche market. you can leave your site's URL at the signature box. Leave your comment and signature to popular forums and blogs. Your site should make at least $900 per year for a ROI of 30%. Most buyers would expect a return on investment of 30 to 40%. So for investment of $3000 buyer will expect a ROI of $900 to $1200 per year. If your site generates about $900 a year or more then somebody may invest $3000 to buy your site.
