Brand new to the rater program, just done a couple of tasks so far....
I keep checking the homepage, tasks not as plentiful as I'd expected. Found 1 in there, did it in 5minutes, then wait a day later, find another, again did it in 5minutes..... Is this normal?

I was expecting I could allocate half a day, 1 or 2 times a week and build up quite a number of hours.
..... It's going to take me some time to build up hours like this, also quite disruptive to have to stop check so regularly for such small bits of work.
I'll end up spending more time checking for tasks than actually doing them!..... smile.gif

Also just reading the previous posts, I have what might be a dumb question...... What is NRT?
Thanks all,

Hi Bandy,

Welcome! NRT is exactly what you've been experiencing! Abbreviated form of that little message that sits there on your screen... when you wish you had better things to do.

Availability of work varies from time to time, and country to country. US raters seem to have most reliable workflow, based on forum posts.

There is software that can alert you when tasks pop up, I believe, but sometimes there's a lot of hanging around. Best to get on with other things and wait until there's some volume imo.

There are add-ons for Firefox which will refresh a page repeatedly (once every 2 or 3 seconds) until a change appears and alert you with an alarm or notification that a change has been found. Take a look at something called check4change.

NRT...this is very frustrating. I have been rating since March and always had plenty of work. Is this normal? Does it go in waves?

NRT here as well. I think this is the first time in about a year for me to have NRT days in a row (I'm in the U.S. and I've been working for LB since December 2009.) I was experiencing what everyone else was Sat/Sun last week with technical difficulties, and since then it's been NRT.

To the new raters, don't give up hope, I know it's frustrating, but soon there will probably be a surplus of tasks again. They must be in the process of re-filling the queue. Everyone keep your fingers crossed & hopefully we'll all be back to work shortly!
spedman

Yeah this is pretty unusual. Kind of frustrating, especially since I've been trying to be more conscientious about doing my work.

I think I got a total of about 100 minutes of work in the past 5 days because of NRT. If it goes like this for another week, I probably wont make my minimum hours for the month.

Hello All,

Without going into specifics, I have numerous questions LB has not responded to.

1) Do I record the time in minutes.... would I put( 1,20) if it takes me 2 hours to complete 30 tasks?

2) I am able to access the rater homepage and the supplier portal but I cannot access the rater portal to read the informational documents regarding productivity, timesheets, etc. I have contacted LB twice at all addresses provided and have yet to receive a response. Any suggestions? Will I be paid for the tasks I complete if I dont have access to the rater portal? I have been meticulously logging my time as the work has been flowing.

3) Once the cutoff date happens, is the timesheet automatically submitted? And if reach 30 hours(minimum) will the pay date be weeks earlier as stated?

I appreciate any help and apologize for all the questions. LB has not been able to answer why I cant access the rater portal or given me the documents through email.

Thanks.

An inquiring mind

Also can you give me a general outline of how long it is expected to complete each Type of Task?

Haha this would be easier if I could access the flippin Portal

Hi Bandy,

I use Alert box that is a Firefox add-on and works very well, you get a sound when tasks become available. And don't worry about NRT, there are periods full of tasks and periods of NRT, we all get them ranting2.gif
Good luck!

I appreciate the suggestion. I tried your method and had no success. I find it frustrating the company I "work" for won't even respond to an email regarding a serious technical problem. I could not even register for the Supplier Portal until recently because of a "technical error" they reportedly had. I just sent out my 3rd round of emails regarding the same problem. Very unprofessional and if they won't reply to emails they need to have a contact number of some sort. I don't care if they are located in Britain, it's not like phones don't exist there .

If the community could guide me in any way regarding my previous post/questions, I appreciate it. At this point, the community is helping me more than the company itself.

IMO, at least, Lionbridge is not an employee-friendly company. Among many issues: they're tremendously unprofessional; we're under a hefty amount of pressure to work quickly and accurately; we're self-trained; and as you've come to see by experience, we receive little support/communication from our employers. Since you're just starting out and you're eager to dive into work it's understandable that you're frustrated. I was antsy when I just started too, and I had a very rough first couple of months. I've had my fair share of beef with this company.

Rest assured, NRT is frustrating, but it's a temporary problem. There will be plenty of work for you to do (and sometimes, even bonuses for completing surplus amounts of work!). The community on these forums is very helpful (yes--moreso than our company and yes--there is something wrong with that) and we're happy to answer any questions you have.

As I see it, the less correspondence exchanged with Lionbridge, the better. I've probably emailed them like...once...and I eagerly look forward to my 2 monthly emails from them: "timesheet approved" and "remittance advice!" I like to stay under the radar. whistling1.gif
lawdog333
I appreciate the response and wise words. After my third email and this time typing in ALL CAPS, I finally got a response giving me the same information I was originally given when I signed up. I shall heed your advice, however, because it is but a temporary problem. Minimizing the communication with LB also seems smart because as in real life, you won't find trouble if you don't look for it.

I still have questions but I will be patient with LB (against my very nature) and keep being grateful the work is flowing at this point.

Cheers

Mmmm... have to agree with previous post, emails = frustration.

Be patient and they'll sort it eventually. They're probably stuck with the same systems we have to deal with, they probably get frustrated too! In my experience the replies have been polite and tried to be helpful...

We can't really divulge too much on this forum because of the NDA (non-disclosure agreement).

Good luck!

Hi there, for everyone who got the information about the bonus program for this week.

The given information are really confusing so here is a short review about the facts.

They say you will earn some extra money for every task above your average.
After stduying the additional list of tasks and tasks types for this bonus program you will find that they standardized every task they will pay equally to 1,8 up to 1,9 minutes.

That means you will work 1,9 minutes (or a little bit less if you are fast) for earning 1 taks for which they will pay. For me this is a bonus of approximately 50% per hour and the task types done are almost irrelevant.

Good day everyone,

I have no flippin clue how to input my time because LB does not know why I cannot access the information portal. Furthermore, I have asked LB directly about inputting time and they simply said "the portal will be up again soon, please be patient." If anyone can give me a flippin clue about how to input time into the timesheet( does 2 hours translate to --- 1,20?) that would be swell. scartissue0486@aol.com or respond to this. I am trying to respect the NDA but I do not know what else to do.

Thanks!

2 hours would be 120.00
3 hours & 14 minutes would be 194.00
27 minutes would be 27.00

You're supposed to round it to the nearest minute -- not sure why they have the .00

Thanks for the help. I will go on record as saying this is the WORST company I have EVER worked for in terms of employee interaction. An automated message system requiring no human input would be more helpful than what I have witnessed. If not for my slight money issue at the moment, I would quit immediately. However, that would be irresponsible so I shall heed the community advice and not contact LB because it is USELESS. Being polite in their emails does not make up for the fact they are simply incompetent.

Hi All,
Just a enquiry to see how people track number of tasks.
It seems such an easy thing to do, but when I get into a rating session, I find it a real interruption to break each time I press finish a task to record which number I'm on. Is there software that track this? like an auto counter or something? I'd imagine LB keep track of which rater tasks completed, why don't they share it!?

I find myself trying to keep track in my head, then every 20mins or so, think to myself..... "is that 5, 6, or 7 I've just done!?!"

A lot like my golf, standing on the green, trying to mentally replay the hole to count up the shots! smile.gif

Also re: a few posts ago, the discussion on timesheet entry, I have taken it that 80mins or 1h 20mins can be entered as 0,80 or 1,20....

Is this correct?

Looking forward to my first star ratings..... I have no idea if I've got better or worse at rating since I started this!
Like thinking of a word for too long until it loses meaning! smile.gif

Thanks all,

Other than a few instances, I have not had much of an issue with not getting a response or answer to my questions. I have been with the company for over 18 months now and email them regularly for clarification, etc. The past couple of weeks have been really bad for getting a response but, overall, I have not found them to be too bad/unprofessional. Not sure if location makes a difference in the quality of the support though.
lawdog333
Good morning,

I use LB Task Control (look it up on google). It helps you track tasks to the second and also keeps track of how many tasks you have completed.

As to the time sheet issue, my understanding is if you work 84 mins, input simply 84 in the table and save. It will save as 84,00. I was doing it your way as well until someone (not LB!!) told me I was doing it wrong.

Cheers

Thanks all,

I keep track of my tasks via pen and paper. I have a notbook right beside me and simply put down a mark for every task. This has worked for me very well. LB does keep track of the number of tasks you complete so I am not sure what the necessity is for us to enter the number of tasks other than to give us a way to keep track of our productivity. There is software (not by LB) but I have never been able to get it to work. There was some discussion about this software recently (within the last couple of months). Maybe you can find the post on this forum.

As for recording your time.........time is supposed to be recorded in minutes (not hours). So if you worked 1 hour and 20 mintues, you should be entering 80.00 in to your time sheet. The rater portal discusses how to record your timesheet, etc.
bandy
Thanks for the LB task control pointer.....
