Today myself and my husband applied for a job as 'live in' ....whatevers...lol...at a beachfront caravan park at Anglesea (Victoria).
Went today and had a look around, it is so beautiful, overlooking Bass Strait....and a virtual paradise for the kids. The job comes provided with a house, and no expenses, and full use of all facilities at the Park. My position would be mainly reception and my husbands, security, maintenance etc.
Anyway, lots have applied, so we probably won't get it, but you never know if you don't try.
Oh, forgot to mention, the pay is fantastic too.

I can vouch for Anglesea as a beautiful place. When our girls were small we took them there every summer. We had our van set up in a private caravan park for several years. Good luck in getting the job.

I wish you and your husband all the best of luck with this job. Well more of a lifestyle really. Sounds lovely, but it does get very cold in winter down there dosen't it. The winds off the Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean. You would probably be able to see whales from there as well. Can you?
This country of ours is so big and diverse, I guess it would be hard for our overseas friends to comprehend.
So dry and dusty here, but I saw that there was flooding out in Bedourie... was that right. On tonights news, or was I just seeing a mirage.

Hi Justin
We got rain late last night 200 kms north of Brisbane, but the heat didn't seem to die down much with it. Gotten up at 5.30am and its still a little light drizzle which is nice.
I really do hope that it continues further up north and out west, I know my sister is on a farm and they are at the stage that they will have to buy water in, so I hope this rain gets to them very very soon.
I think the best present us Aussies could have today on Australia Day is rain, rain and more rain, I know that we can all still go out and celebrate even if it is raining.

Yes it is very quiet in here, maybe everyones suffering from the extreme heat conditions yesterday. At our place it was 36 degrees in the shade and we had to travel 60kms to Maryborough yesterday without any air conditioning, then back again and it was bloody awful being in the car, it was nice to get back to the air conditioning in our home. A few of our older friends have been saying that even they who used to enjoy the heat that it is getting too hot for them these days, even though they have lived all their lives in Qld.
Me, we have only been up here just over 4 years now and came from Sydney, which too can get very hot.
What does our other Queenslanders think of having to use recycled water, now that Beatty has decided that is whats best for Qld. I am very glad that we have only access to tank water, my hubby said we are already drinking recycled water, I said yes I already know from frog poo, and he said from all pollutants from the air as well.
My brother who lives on the Gold Coast has just put in a 2,500 gallon water tank, he said that it cost him $1500 and he gets back $1200 in government rebates. Thats not bad, as us rural country people don't get back anything, its only if you live in a city or on town water and install tanks that you get rebates. Our 2 x 5200 gallon tanks costed us just over $4000 2 years ago. We also have a 1100 gallon tank as well. No rebates for us, but I am glad the government is giving some form of rebate as it will hopefully encourage a few more city people to try and conserve water with installing their own tanks, and hopefully won't be too wasteful.
The only water that my garden gets is when it rains, we use sugar cane mulch here, as it is in plenty supply seeing that we live not far from canefields and is very reasonably prices at around $2.50 to $3.00 for a bale. I am going to buy the big rolls of sugar cane mulch, which a friend said was equal to about 25 bales, and a lot cheaper price at approx. $30 a roll delivered. We have grevilla's planted and they look wonderful even through this drought, and can survive on very little water. I took 4 days to mow out the back, as I spent 1 hour each evening in the cool to try and get some of the back mowed, I have done down to the dam, but its even getting too warm in the evening now for me. Yes it took that long on a ride on mower. I still have another 3/4 of an acre to mow on the other side of the dam, but a friend has bought another tractor and is getting a slasher, so he said he will finish the rest for me if I don't get it done. My hubby is very busy trying to finish our home in this heat at present to worry about how long the grass or cattle grass is getting, thats my job.
Late yesterday afternoon we had very dark clouds and even thunder, but it didn't rain, what a shame. Hopefully it will happen soon.
Anyway I have waffled on enough now. Hope you all have a nice day and all of us should be praying for a little relief from the heat and most important pray for some rain.

Thanks for that nice post Jane.
I am finding the heat very oppressive at the moment, many Southerners don't understand that there is a great difference between 36 degrees in Queensland and 36 degrees in Victoria.
The Sun here has so much more bite to it, and the high humidity makes it nearly unbearable. I guess we cant complain too much this year in regards to the heat, because it has started in January rather than the usual November, however it sure has come with a vengeance. Today we have a hot Northerly just to give us a gentle fan forced oven effect, there is a chance of a later storm but I doubt we could be that lucky.

The weekend nearly killed me. Hang on, I had better rephrase that for our international members.. It was so hot here, I felt like dying... is that right.. The heat is unbearable.
But on a good note, I drove out to the dam early this morning. The water level is dropping there as well. But I can now fish from an old causeway that is only ankle deep. A few months back it was about 10 foot under the water. I was rewarded for my efforts.. LOL no Catfish Pete. A barra, yes finally got the old bugger I had been chasing under that causeway.. But half an hour later, I got another... so that really confused me if I had caught the one I was chasing. Nevermind. I threw the second one back, as I will only eat the one.
Oh.. the size. Trev says it was about 4 kilo. I am not sure about weights in this new stuff, but I reckon it was about 10 lbs. So guess what I will be having for dinner tonight?
All this took my mind off the heat for awhile, it was so peacefull down there early in the morning. But the wind has come up, looking stormy though. Here's hopeing. Not much water left in the tank now. I haven't been using much, it must be evaporating. LOL
I hope everyone else had a good weekend.

I feel for you all living in such oppressive heat. I have never been to Queensland, but I kind of imagine it to be like a 24 hour sauna, or the air being really 'thick' .
The weather here the last couple of days has been really pleasant, around 25 - 28 deg Celcius. And with that, very cool nights.
The sun seems to be so much hotter now, very dangerous. My two little children, are really brown and used to being in the sun. On Australia day they went swimming in the afternoon, I slathered them in Sunscreen SPF 30, and yet, they still got burnt from one hours swimming. So different to when I was a child.
I am hoping and hoping you all get the rain you need.

Well I've got to report that I was woken up at 12:30am this morning (and I even sleep with ear plugs because I'm a light sleeper and the possums galloping across the roof sound like the Melbourne cup), aaaaaaaaaaand....... I woke up to a roaring sound! I thought the world was ending or a vicious force was unleashed upon my quiet place in suburbia, BUT.......
It was RAINING!!!!
Not just a short and sweet shower but it was HAMMERING down! No thunder or anything, just faint flashes of lightning occasionally for pleasant effect. lol
Then the thunder crept in and the lightning intensified and the rain hammered down even more!
This kept up for 1.5 hours. Whoo hoo!!!!
Apparently my suburb and another got the heaviest rainfall in Brisbane.
I'm sure the dams and the catchment areas were missed again, but everything around me was absolutely DRENCHED.
I'm so grateful.

Hip Hip Horay
We finally got some rain late yesterday afternoon and we also got a dog with it.
A very nice and placid but extremely scared German Shepherd, who was totally drenched thru and very shaken.
She was trying to shelter from the storm on our very big verandah. She was very welcomed to stay around for a while to dry off. I had never seen her before, so went for a walk to see if I could find her owners but to no avail. I rang a few people to see if anyone reported her missing, rang our local postie, to see if she remembers seeing a German Shepherd on her rounds anywhere near us, but not. Anyway we left our gate open to see if she would head off home to her family, but before that, she was so riddled with fleas and I mean badly, we had some Frontline - 2 of them left for the cat, so decided to put them on her instead, as I couldn't stand for her to be in so much distress from all of the fleas. Hopefully it will help her for a little bit.
She was missing a collar, but maybe it could have come off with her being so panic stricken. Also gave her a bite to eat and a bowl of water. So if even for a short time, she was fed, watered and given some kind of flea treatment to make her a little bit comfortable. We decided she wasn't a young dog, due to her front teeth, except her big canine teeth, all the other front teeth were totally worn away, she had nothing left there. Me myself I was very upset, as I wanted her to go home to her parents, or hopefully her parents were out looking for her. I know how I felt years ago when my cat went missing. Well sometime during the night, she has hopefully decided to go home, well that is what I would like to believe. But if she ever needs shelter again she is more than welcomed, even if it is only for a brief visit.
The sun is warming up again, so after all of the rain, looks like we will be in for another humid day. Hope more people got rain where we desperately need it.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

I'm a mess this morning, the kids are starting at their new school. They seem okay, but my stomach is churning. Going from a school of 50 children, to one of 350 is a big change for them....lol, and me
And, I cannot believe what I did.....I bought their school uniforms a couple of weeks ago, and they didn't have a jumper to fit Rhianna. I said I would go back and get one when they came in, and forgot all about it till this morning when she was getting dressed. So, the poor girl hasn't got a jumper to wear on her first day , I am really angry at myself. Today is the coolest day we've had in weeks......Murphy's Law I suppose.

To be quite honest, Barra don't taste that good either. It had been awhile since I had actually eaten one, but I definately prefer salt water fish. Love catching the Barra, great sport. But I think a photo would be nice then put them back.. so people like them though.
Maybe I feel this way as I am just not a good cook.
Still no rain. Now that it is about 11:30pm, the temp has cooled off a bit. Still in the early 30's though. Maybe tomorrow will bring a change. (I have been thinking that everyday for the last week)

We haven't had any more rain, and they said that we could have storms today. Where we live you can have rain in one street and no rain in the next street, very strange sometimes.
The German Shepherd is still hanging around. Aparently the very unsocialable guy next door called or had the council (dog and weed control inspector) call into his place yesterday, as the GS was over at his place yesterday and barked at him, so hopefully the inspector only called into to question him why his grass was over 4ft high and not a complaint about the GS. I was really hoping she would decide to head home or have at least seen someone looking for her. She decided to spend the rest of the day either under our house or on our verandah, so I gave her some kitty cat food last night, mixed with some weet bix as that is all we had and another bowl of water. I know the saying that if we feed her, she is more likely to stay around, but I can't bare to see any animal go without food or water. We will drive to our nearest shop today and put a notice up, even though the owner of the shop already knows that she is up here, but she is free to come and go as she wishes, as our house yard, some of the fencing is down at present, as I had to find homes for my 2 other dogs, when we decided that we were moving to England, so I will certainly not keep her if her owners don't come and claim her, but I will continue to try for a while yet, then if her owners don't claim her I will find her a new home. She is just so placid with us and a bit of a sweety.
One of the councils north of us, have only just decided to implentment level 1 water restrictions, I couldn't believe it, I believe that level 1 water restrictions should have been implemented a long time ago, not leaving it until something starts to happen that means leaving things too late. Hopefully the people in that council area will really take heed as to what is happening in the rest of the country and especially places like Brisbane who are already I think on level 5 water restrictions, but ask Justin as I think he lives in Brisbane from his posts.
Heres hopeing for some rain in the places that haven't had any and more rain for the places that have. Its really funny that last night on the news and weather they were predicting floods for the northern parts of Qld, while the rest remain in drought.

Hey Dorky, a similar thought crossed my mind at the time. Since it was hammering down, I felt a little hysterical and wanted to run outside and collect it somehow. Just thought I should celebrate my 1000th post in my favourite thread.
I've just read through the last few posts and caught up on all the latest weather news. I'm so glad that some rain is finally starting to arrive for you guys. It's even raining cats and dogs for Jane...well, dogs anyway.
What a great read this thread is! It is required reading for me every day. Everybody who writes in it gives it their own personal touch, tells it like it is and reveals fascinating insights for those of us on the other side of the world.
There are many threads I've joined in MMG which I really wish I hadn't because they have been losing experiences for me. I look at some of those threads now with regret, thinking how foolish I was to get involved with their particular drama.
But this is one thread I don't regret joining - a scam-free zone where I eagerly follow the suspense and drama (or lack of it) because it affects the real lives of real people who I've got to know over the last year.
As an outsider sometimes I struggle with the odd reference but I've learned a lot here. I've had to google things like barra to find out it was a fish - to me it's the name of a beautiful little island off the west coast of Scotland I visited once. I regularly look up the place names in the atlas to see if I can find them and I'm halfway through my first jar of Vegemite - and will be investing in another one soon.
I'm sure that my second millenium of posts will include a few more here and I look forward to reading the continuing adventures of Pete, Cheryl, Justin, Dorky, Jane, OK and all the rest.
Cheers Cake

I was hoping that we would have had some rain overnight, but nothing even though we have had these very dark stormy clouds threatening us, I think they are teasing us a bit.
We had to spend a fair bit of time in town yesterday, with doctors appointments, shopping etc.
So by the time we got home in the afternoon the German Shepherd was no where in sight. We bought some dog food for her just in case she decided to come back for dinner last night.
I am a little worried that maybe the councils dog collector may have been and taken her. I will ring the council today and see if they did, as I said before she might be missing her collar because she broke away seeing she was very frighten from the storm the other day. I am feeling very distress that they may have her, as we would be still willingly trying to find her owners and if not, would eventually find her someone to love her, as I said she had a beautiful nature.
Well we drove to town again last night as my hubby John celebrated his 56th birthday, I just hate being out at night, as it can be quite dangerous being on the roads back in our area as we live 4kms off the Bruce Hwy and the whole area is full of roos, as much as I don't want to damage our car which we have only just got back on the road after nearly 12 months, its a Ford Explorer, and had several problems with the clutch, master cyclinder and just replaced the slave cylinder, and its all hunky dory again, I would hate to kill a roo as they are wonderful beautiful creatures.
So the car is back on the road driving well, but now we will have to put it up for sale, due to the move later to England and we will just continue to use a little mazda coupe that is 25 years old, but gets us from A to B. (no air conditioning working)
Catch you all later and have a lovely and hopefully wet day.

Hi Jane
No snow here just now, in fact it's really mild (about 12 degrees) and I'm thinking of switching the heating off for a bit.
It's supposed to be getting a bit colder by the weekend though. The ground is very soft just now, I wouldn't mind a bit of groundfrost just now to keep the snowdrops firmly in place. Every day I am having to replant some because the birds just uproot them. They are just about to flower now, I have quite a few clumps of snowdrops in the garden, they make a nice show.

Congratulations on you 1000th post Cake, and all very well written I might add
I am extremely proud of you Cake - being halfway through a jar of vegemite , most people OS hate the look of it, let alone try it, and then to continue eating it. Well done!!
Just like you, I too love this thread. It is the only one I post in regularly, and again like you, read through daily, usually quite a few times a day. It's good to see new members slowly but surely visiting here, and starting to post.
Well, Travis and Rhianna have almost finished their first week at their new school, and I have to say I am extremely proud of them. They have coped wonderfully, no tears, no complaints, even though I could tell they were quite nervous. Yesterday they both got a new bike, and today I walked with them while they rode to school. Next week, they are allowed to ride by themselves, as we only live an extremely short distance from the school.
Today is very hot here, the news said a top of 32, but it is hotter already, and only just 1pm. Tomorrow even hotter. We are going swimming tonight, so the kids will love that.
I love snowdrops Cake, I used to have them everywhere in our previous house, and always picked bunches and bunches of them to put around the house. They looked lovely with the mauve irises.

No problem, Dorky. That's given me my first good laugh of the day. You'll have to go back through all my 1000+ posts and read them in a different light now LOL A few people have assumed I was female probably because they see the picture of the cake and jump to the conclusion that I like baking etc. whereas my real forte lies in eating cakes.
I've always had "male" stated in my profile on the left and have always found it funny how some people want to cheat others into thinking they are not male when they are. Some people have some serious mental problems.
I'm happy with about 5'10", Pete, and I haven't worn a kilt since I was about ten - you only see kilts at weddings or festivals now, it's not normal daywear. The weather was a bit frosty last night but it's nice and sunny now. I think I'll go for a walk in the hills this afternoon, now that I've done all my surfing and coasting.
Take care, speak to you all later.

Hey Cake,
I am really disappointed that you do not wear a kilt, I was so looking forward to meeting you when we move over there in your kilt. Maybe you could put it on for this special occassion when we see you.

Hi Everyone - May I introduce myself - I am from Brisbane, Australia and have only just found "The Aussie Thread. I have only been "surfing" and investing on the internet for a short period of time and have certainly been on a huge learning curve. I have had some wins and losses but have now a few investments as stable as can be in this industry. I have been reading Dorky's blogsite and found Pete's "Break the Drought" and it is great to see some good "aussie" sites. As I have been reading your posts the drought in Australia keeps coming up. It has been going on for a long time now and Queensland, although having alot of rain in our far north, Brisbane and southern Queensland need a great deal of rain. Anyway I guess that is enough for now and I look forward to reading your various posts. Many thanks - loribee

Welcome to the thread loribee. Great to see so many Queenslanders here. Make me wonder where all the other states are. I know there are some.
Far north Queensland faily copped the rain. But probably will be as usual, too much at one time. We really need follow up rain.
I am in Central Queensland and we got about 16mm the other night. Definately put some water in my tank, but we need more. Makes me sound greedy, but I dream of getting some rain at least once a week, plus what has happened to the good old days with our wet season. The weather patterns certainly don't do anyone much good at the moment. I am not going to get into the political part of our State dilemma, but really, they have been talking and not doing for many years. You folk in Brisbane are certainly not fairing well. Seems to me the engineers of the past built these huge dams in the wrong place. Mother Nature hopefully will give us some relief.
By the way, thanks for reading my Blog. Behind the scenes I am working on a blog with my experiences as they happen.. LOL I have called it Dorky's Shed. I haven't got far, as I really need to be in the mood.. too much happening. But I love this life, gives me renewed meaning in life.
Just on my charity note: Trev returns to Brisbane next week, I have the December Donation ready and am currently working on January's donation... all I can say is that atm it is approx. $600 exact figure will be posted on my blog by the end of the week. So keep watching.

I never became an honorable aussie in this forum... I ate my vegemite...3 times! but it just didn't much agree with me..does that disqualify me? I want to join in...I'd send you some of our rain if I could..although we do need it..but I'd gladly share! I promise I would if I could...

Hi loribee,
Welcome to the Aussie Thread. You should only find friendliness and the Aussie Spirit here amongst all posting here, even our o/s friends share the same aussie spirit.
Also to Linda nice to hear from you hope you are well.
The german shepherd turned up again today, I knew after I rang the council that they hadn't picked her up, so we thought maybe she had finally gone home to mum and dad, but she was back here having a friendly welcome home bark when we got back from town. Maybe she came for a quick visit and to say hello and spent some time in the shade undernearth our home.
Catch you all later.

Linda 7,
Welcome to being a surrogate Aussie, in order to truly past the test totally, and extract yourself from the trial period, you need to guzzle down a bottle of Australia's national drink.

I have to admit... when I read that I would have to drink the national drink..I got very nervous..figured I'd never make it..I'd totally always be a surrogate (Dorky! You have been telling me stories all this time!!!) Then I saw the pic and my jaw dropped... I CAN DO THIS....just give me some time! There isn't a time limit to downing it is there?
A big thank you for the warm welcome to your thread! Now tell me...seriously...in the HYIP/Autosurfing industry, the friendliest people that I have met seem to come from Australia and Canada..what's your secret?

No time limit Linda, most Aussie Kids, mine in particular take at least a week.

There's nothing quite like cooking a beautiful roast for your family, only to watch your husband drown it in tomato sauce

Pheww!!! When I saw Pete's post to Linda7 I backed away. LOL I think I have learnt
Thank goodness you other Aussie set Linda7 on the requirements. LOL (Pulls me out of the ####) Hi Linda7
Aussiefox, what is wrong with tomato sauce sparing spread on a roast dinner? It dosen't detract from the chief's cooking ability. To me if my dinner guest put this sauce on the meal I cooked I consider it an honor. Just to get them to eat it is another story.
