cake again
Just to say Hi to Aussiefox (I see you are reading) and Pete, of course. wave.gif

Interesting to see the temperature reaching 37, I couldn't live with that.
As autumn draws in here in the UK it is a mild 18 or 19, but we are getting some heavy rain along with it.
(Just got back from 10 days in Switzerland where the weather was great.)

All the best to my pals in Oz, see you later. tongue4.gif

Hi smile.gif

Haven't see you around in ages.....we are in for one very, long hot summer. and in the midst of the worse drought Victoria has seen. Pete, if you are reading this, Lake Wendouree has dried up.....it has joined Lake Learmonth and Lake Burrumbeet. It is scary. Cake,do you think you could share your rain?? biggrin.gif My poor kids see a puddle on a rare occasion these days, and think we are getting a flood.........

Switzerland.......how nice, you are so lucky. It's one of the places I would love to go to.
Take care.

Big minimum wage rise stuns employers

Employers have reacted with horror to the new Australian Fair Pay Commission's (AFPC) first minimum wage decision, which delivers up to $27.36 a week for the nation's poorest workers. clapping7.gif

The decision, the first since May last year and the first since the newly created commission took over wage-setting from the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, will affect about 1.2 million workers. clapping7.gif

In other news...The head mufti is under pressure!!(top Muslim leader here in Australia)
Seems even our PM is not happy with what head mufti said.

for those who missed it he basically said that if a girl goes out dressed like a slut she deserves what she gets.

I've been saying much the same for years!!!!

Sorry folks, in a manner of speaking I have let the team down recently, in being a little slack in my posting.

I am back!

1/ If a girl dresses like a slut she deserves to be raped. Who the hell is this minority cleric? That is able to determine what a slut looks like?
Is it because she goes to the beach in a bikini? (as do most Australian females)
Is it because she shows her ankles, boobs, calves, thighs, in her manner of dress?

Rape is a crime against humanity!!!!!!!!!

There is no excuse, religious or otherwise, that can justify the rape of a woman because of her dress.

This country is a bastion of freedom, we are each allowed to express ourselves as we wish, be what we want to be, look the way we want to look. The Australian way is to accept people beyond face value, we are all in this thing together, whether we like it or not, that is the essence of multiculturism.

FTW, just to set the record straight I too am a Jew.

Now down to Aussie business, It amazes me that the southern part of our continent has been so hot and dry,
in Queensland we have really been experiencing a very cool spring, today was only 24deg, with an overnight of 17deg.

Brisbane is moving today onto level 4 water restrictions, just 100 klms north, we have full dams??

As much as I like to think that Aussies we all pull together, I am happy to at last see some degree of useful discussion on this thread, which must be close to 1 year old.

Best thing is that we all understand what being an Aussie is.

You cant become Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Turkish, Dutch. Or just about any other nationality that you can think of, but, you can become an Australian.

All we ask, is that you become one of us.

No one has ever said that a girl that dresses like that "deserves" anything.
The point made was that a girl who dresses that way is asking for problems and that the male is not fully to blame.
Yes the choice of words used by the mufti, was not the best and he did not explain himself to well
but maybe the reason is because english is not his first language.

Of course rape ia wrong and can never be justified.

I fail to see how anyone can say that he did not have a point??
If you flash your money around in Footscray Mall or in Kings Cross what do you think may happen??
I bet after you got robbed your friends would tell you that you were an idiot for flashing your cash!!

ask yourselves these 3 questions...
1)If the same thing had been said by the church and not a Muslim, would the opinions of our PM and Costello and those here in this thread have still been the same?? I think not.
2)Do you not think that some girls need to take a bit of responsibility for how they dress in public?
3)how many men like derryn Hinch for example have gotten into trouble over a girl who was under age but went out all dolled up, with the short skirt ect made to look much older only to later cry rape?

You wrote...

Just so long as we only say what YOU want to hear!!!
You can't have it both ways.
Freedom of speech means that those you do not aggree with also have the right to their opinion.
If you do not respect your opponents right to their opinion then you do not respect our democracy.
Australians unfortunatly have not yet accepted multiculturalism, The big cities like Melb and Sydney may have but not here in the bush. This is the one thing I hate about our great country.
I run a trade site at most of the Agg shows in this part of the state.
You should see how some girls are dressed at the shows...
I hope my daughter never goes out like that!!

I live in the bush, north east Victoria and we have hardly had any rain for months.
maybe the government should of done something long ago...
we have our own water supply with 3 tanks that collect the rain off the house and shed roof.
I have wondered why years ago the government did not make it law for all new homes to install tanks.
The less people on town water the better. So long as we are a little careful with how long we spend in the shower etc, we have not run out yet!!
WE NEED RAIN!!!

Whoa. What you are saying is complete rubbish!

I live in the bush... things are fine out here with multicultualism. I live on the other side of Vic to you but in the sticks so to speak. I know there are always a few that don't act accordingly but that's with everything everywhere

To answer your questions...
1)Well I think you are wrong. The PM would not stand by and let any major head honcho say such a thing without putting his foot down.

2)In my opinion anyone who says such a thing basically is saying they think it's ok to rape a female dressed in such a way. Most of the females that dress the way you are saying are just kids. They are following the trend. All of thier stars and idols are dressing like it so why aren't they allowed? It is trendy, not asking for it.

3) A short shirt makes one look older? I should wear long skirts in my older age to stay looking younger then? Can't believe for all these years we have been lead to believe that we have to look after ourselves to stay looking young when it was all in the skirt length the whole time.... doh.gif rofl4.gif

On the rain thing... We, like the rest of Vic are in desperate need of rain. We had more rainfall earlier in spring than most other places in Vic but now it's sad looking. It'll be a hell of a year for fires here...
Dad is going to struggle this year on the farm, Mum used to feed while dad worked to pay for the extra feed, but this year it's not going to happen. Feeding 280 odd head of cattle in a draught is a fulltime job, I hope he gets a miracle and has a wet summer, not that it looks like happening but you can only hope. A full on draught will just about see the end of Dad after what he's been through this year.

Hi O.K.,
I'm sorry it's going to be so tough for your Dad this summer, we can only hope that we get heaps and heaps of rain. We are on stage 4 restrictions now, so lawns, gardens etc cannot be watered at all, and no washing of cars, etc, etc. I thought we had it tough, but when I realise what the farmers are going through, it puts things in perspective for me.

Anyway, I hope you and your Dad manage to cope, and fingers crossed it gets better for you.

If I have to pick up a few extra shifts a week so I can help dad then I will. Wish he had of sold half 2 months ago when prices were still good, now he'll have to hold them throughout the summer and wait for Autumn prices. He's got a bit of hay and hopefully he can get a few more cuts off his feed paddocks before it dries right up. As much as I hate carting hay I hope for a busy year for his sake. I am trying to fill in and do as much as I can for him but I am not as clued up as Mum was on the farm and I have other committments so I can not put in the hours she did. Still I am running around for him all hours of the day and night doing what I can, but it doesn't feel like it's enough. Can only do my best I guess.... if only there were another 5 hours in a day it would be perfect.

Farmers are becoming one of the biggest suicide classes in Aussie which is really sad but I can understand it is their livelyhood. For all the hours they put in and get nothing in return it's tragic and enough for anyone to get depressed. Dad wouldn't go down that road, but he's depressed after losing mum and the last thing he needs is to struggle over summer. Things have to turn around at some stage, I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

From your mouth to G-d's ears....Let it piss down all summer long!! We sure do need it.

We drove the 120km from Glenrowan to shepparton this morning to pick up stock for Albury show this week-end. It is so dry out there, and there are so few animals on the farms. I had heard that many were selling off the animals for little or no money. We live on 12acers of mainly bush land. just roos and rabbits and goannas here!! we have put out food for them for years but now we also put out water!

O.K...My best wishes to your Dad.

I am terribly sad for all of you who are in drought.

A.F. it is unthinkable late lake Wendouree, could be dry.

O.K. My heart really goes out to you and your father. I have friends that have just walked off the land after 4-5 years of drought.

Having spent time in the U.S. where the centre of the country is a mass of lakes, wider than the eye can see, I doubt that, any U.S citizen could ever know drought as we do.

We live on the driest continent on the planet.

We are in the middle,(or beginning), of the greatest drought that we have ever seen.

This year we will have fires beyond belief.

In the 20 years I have lived here, first Lake Goldsmith dried up (and that was massive), followed by Burrumbeet, Learmonth and now Wendouree. A couple of years back they held a ball on the lake bed of Burrumbeet,....that's how dry that is.

We're meant to have a change today, hope it brings that rain you are talking about.

The climate is changing. There is no wet season down here anymore. Have to prepare for fire season now earlier than usual and because we did have a bit of rain earlier, fuel reduction burns were few and far between around here, now it's getting to the stage where it is too late.

We have to battle through the summer, then Dad will sell half his stock. It will make it more managable for future years if it stays dry.

Thanks for your well wishes Pete, we will battle it through. smile.gif

And Victorian Premier Steve Bracks has made the decision to drain Lake Makoan neer Benalla!!!
All the street marches and protests have thus far fallen on deaf ears.

I backed Pop Rock in the cup....didn't pay too well for the place, but better than nothing.

Had a few wins in earlier races at Flemmington which were good earners. dance9bh.gif

Mighty Storms today, right over Brizzie's catchment area, with reports of 'cricket ball' sized hailstones, just hope a few million of those cricket balls landed in Somerset and Wivenhoe dams.

I don't doubt it Pete. I really want to live on a mountain somewhere.....Maleny or Mt Glorious? Who knows.
Someday soon maybe perhaps.....

I love the rainforest so much. Suburbia just rots my soul and mind. I truly believe those who say that different areas have different energies and that a higher quality energy is almost non-existent in cities and their surroundings.

A tiny mountain lodge somewhere is calling my name.......

A couple of weeks back we spent the day with friends at Mt. Tambourine, they have a quaint 2 story cottage surrounded by National Park, you could feel the energy!

The wife is a painter, so the downstairs studio area is just the kind of controlled chaos, that disarms and relaxes you.

Hope we get invited back soon.

Sounds like they're truly blessed. I'd like to create a living dream like that. I want to become a musician though.
A clairvoyant friend of mine told me I'm meant to play the hurdy-gurdy someday.

She says I'd be a natural....we have musicians everywhere in my family so hopefully I might do well with it. happy.gif
