Just watched it live, it's just so absolutely amazing that these fella's have been down there for 14 days, yet they walked out, looking fantastic. Incredible. Physically they are in such good shape. Psychologically may take a bit longer, but hey, they're Aussie blokes.....they don't come any tougher.

Thanks, and yes you're right. The poor man who died.....so sad. They held the funeral off in the hope that his 2 mates underground would be out in time to go. And they are, so I hope that is some small consolation for them. To lose a good mate, and then to suffer that ordeal, what they must have gone through is incomprehensible.

Totally sad in some ways that the poor bugger that died has been overshadowed by the relief that a nation feels when a rescue operation goes right.
Wonderful to see those guys "walk out", after 13 days underground.

Apparently the town of Beaconsfield partied for 24 hours or so, it was both a celebration and a wake.
Eddie McGuire even joined in visiting the pub and shouting a round.
I think although the rescue has the front page many are thinking of the poor Knight family as they buried their son, husband and father yesterday. It was cruel the 3 of them couldn't be celebrating this time together.

At Beaconsfield gold mine, near Launceston in Tasmania, two miners were trapped nearly 1 klm under ground. After 13 days they were freed, in good health, after some massive efforts by mine staff and engineers.
Oh and, I have a good mate from close to beaconsfield, when Boags brewery promised a pallette of beer for the celebrations, he said, "well that'll last about ten minutes".

We used to get an Aussie Rules prog on TV in the UK about 15 years ago - I loved it but all we get now is 30 seconds on a general sports prog. I think you get it on satellite TV though.
I always followed the Bombers myself and a friend of mine who did a teaching exchange in Oz for a year brought me back a Bombers' jersey - great!
I'll need to find a website to get more updates - although this thread is pretty comprehensive and Cheryl keeps me informed with how the red and blacks are getting on.
By the way, I never made any progress with Sherbet but I bought a cheap CD recently of an Aussie group called The Green Pajamas which is very interesting.

My Mum has memorabilia from EFC dating back to the 1940's. She was a little girl living in Essendon and went to every training session and every match. She has autographs and messages from Dick Reynold's, who she knew quite well, and John Coleman (who she had a massive crush on). It's interesting , she has books full of cuttings and stuff. I am sure the Essendon FC would be interested in it, but she wouldn't part with it for anything.

A bit of lighthearted humour in the local paper, written by a local.
SOMETIMES
You know those times you feel bad When everything's gone wrong, And all the hope you used to have For future days is gone
The 'job' has got the best of you And your time seems just a waste And the wife is always on your back That's when you get the taste.
So you head off to the local 'pub' With these things on your mind, Just to have a drink or maybe two To leave them all behind, You pick a nice quiet corner, To enjoy one on your own, And soon you're starting to forget Your troubled life at home
As your feelings start to brighten And all the worries disappear, With nothing else to think about But the cool and soothing beer, Till soon the world doesn't seem so bad And that everything's okay, You've forgotten all your problems And home seems miles away.
Yes you're really starting to pick up And by now your hopes have soared, Till some bloke who has had too much Decides that you are bored, As he staggers up beside you And in a slurred and drunken tone, Slaps you on the back and asks "How's everything at home?"

Three of my chooks were killed, and one taken, by a fox last night
I know they're just chooks, but they are my pets, they follow me around the yard like a dog would, they eat together with the cats....they've even been known to sneak inside if the door is left open for a minute.
I just can't believe we didn't hear the racket they must have made. Our phone did ring at 1.20am though, I wouldn't mind betting the neighbour was ringing to let me know. Shame we didn't answer the phone.

How'd you feel after your slab Pete? XXXX is not my drop of nectar, but I guess it's what you grow up with. I am a VB girl through and through. If they made the stuff taste as good without the alcohol I'd drink it all day long.
I don't mind other CUB beers either but no other comes close to VB.
I paid 30 quid (around $75) in England for a slab of VB tinnies and it was worth every penny, I don't like tinnies much, more of a stubby person but it taste good after about 4 months of looking.
Bundy is something I have never actually tasted, I can't stand the smell of it it makes me want to puke.
