I have a soft spot for them, as long as their not playing The Mighty Bombers.

I must get back into this thread, seems I am in just too many surfs atm, and by the time I surf, and check the threads I just run out of time. All in all it's a strong little thread, keeps on popping back up again. Pete

Sunshine Coaster here, great beaches, and very pretty hinterland. One time it was a lazy relaxed part of the world, but with everybody getting into the "seachange" thing our population is exploding.
Every other person here is from NSW or Vic, including me back about 25yrs. And they would all be right......we have hundred's of 'best places' over here. Australia is a very very large place....it might be easier if you could say where you will first be arriving....melb? Syd? Brisbane? And in summer, winter etc........ But anyway, wherever abouts you are going, someone in here will be able to help. See really Jason is just so miserable that he won't give us our own sub-forum, so we have to keep coming here and annoying everybody.
Another year, another Anzac day, Anzac day should be explained to people from other parts of the world, it is a day that is declared a public holiday in recognition of every serviceman who has ever served his country. ANZAC is derived from Australia & New Zealand Army Corps. On this day old servicemen and their offspring through the generations march, through the streets, the people we fought against in many wars march too. It is a celebration of where we are today, and, a deeply greatful recognition of those that made it possible. Pete
What a day yesterday... The mighty hawks beat the bombers by 1 point
Against all odds the men have survived a rock fall and have been living on drips of water that run throughout the mine. 35 degree heat, being trapped in a 1.5metre square cage for 5 days and surviving is unbelievable. Tears filled my eyes as I watched the families and friends celebrate the news, it could take up to 48 hours to get the 2 men out, what a great moment that will be. Yep, the Hawks beat the bombers But fantastic news about the miners. Fingers crossed everyone, it's still very dangerous for them, but last I heard they were sending down food and water. Reminiscent of a certain incident at Thredbo with Stuart Diver. Did you hear about the Train accident in Victoria, near my way. The driver, who is in an induced Coma at the moment, had just about every bone in his body broken, internal and head injuries. My son goes out with his daughter. And his mum was killed as a passenger. Such a tragic event, again, fingers crossed for him, they are such a lovely family. You just never know what is going to happen when you walk out of your home in the morning to go to work.
the surface of the sun

What happened in Aussies?
The really all important breaking news at the moment in Australia, is that the mighty Swans aka South Melbourne Football Club, belted Geelong.
Now that is an international headline! Pete QUOTE(aussiefox @ May 1 2006, 02:01 PM) Yep, the Hawks beat the bombers But fantastic news about the miners. Miners trapped, Big Brother series 5 ( btw, Just found this thread, and wondering if there are any other queenslanders kicking about? **edit** Im an idiot, hi gonsaigon..
Pondering for the day:
- Fuel Syndicates (heres the example scenario) Think about the bendigo banks... group of people come together, and establish a bank... Group of people come together (lets say 30odd families), and register for StarCards with Caltex. Lets say that these 30 odd families have a combined total of 70odd cars, with a combined fuel expenditure monthly of in excess of $20k AUD... I wonder what the discounting power is by banding together under one umbrella starCard account...if any.. Could be community or bigger, who knows... Just got me thinking
Hmmmmmmmmmm,
I hate starcard, I have been buying fuel from a local fuel depot for 15 years, it's just been bought out by a major Caltex distributor. So now, instead of the simple swipe card system, we have to wait while this bloody thing dials up to make sure our credit is good, then go to the selected pump. This would be o.k., but at certain times the traffic through this place is hell, with every body waiting to be processed. The other thing I hate is this, we have 2 days everymonth that we pay our bills, like most businesses, those days are the 25th and 30/31st, Starcard is due on the 21st, and we forget every month, and have to make the call to get re-instated. Well I've had my whinge now. The miners in Tassie? I guess we are all sitting on the edge of our seats at the moment. Aussie Fox, I am sorry to hear about this tragedy. Pete
The rescuing of the Tasmanian Goldminers is still dominating the news, it sure is a slow process to bore that shaft through solid rock. I can't help but feel the tension that the families, and friends of these men are going through right now.
The whole little community of Beaconsfield is on a razor's edge, hope things go right for these people. Pete They're getting alot closer now only a few metres away.....but looks like they'll be underground another night....let's hope tomorrow brings good news. Poor buggers!!!
Because I'm a little claustrophobic I really feel for these guys, looks like they'll be out by tomorrow.
Pete
G'day i work for a fuel distributor and some of our customers got together and formed a company and buy their fuel in bulk, they each have their own card and seperate account but buy as one. The more you buy the more you can drive a bargain with them ok bye.
What a slow process to get these 2 men out. I feel for them and their families.
Should be within in the next 24 hours that we see these men see the light of day again. Here's hoping for a safe rescue for all concerned. I was just watching the latest update on TV. After finding them alive 7 days ago, and drilling to within a metre or two, they are now finding that the Rock is just too hard to get through. They are talking about having to start a whole new tunnel. Poor poor men and their families........I just cannot comprehend what any of them involved are going through. And lets not forget their mining mates who desperately want to get them out. Apparently they are waiting on an official update any time. God I hope the news is good. Cheryl
Just saw that myself.
Poor buggers, I could not imagine being in such a place and having the high spirits they have, although their high spirits would have to be weakening by now.
Amazing thing, the guys trapped underground, seem to be calmer than those on top, probably due to the immense media beat up.
Having said that, it is sad that Richard Carlton died at the site today. The good news is the Swans belted the Lions, a very sweet victory for me.
