I am new to the social networking industry. I want to hear everybody's thoughts on the social giant Twitter. I see many tutorials on how to use it, and why I should. I guess I personally want to know what everybody is thinking about it. Are you having good results? Is it effective? Can it really drive traffic to your site or desired destination? Does an open conversion platform work better then a closed or invited conversation platform (Myspace or Facebook)?

Thanks guys for your answers in advance. I also setup a quick little poll. Let me know what your thoughts are!

Twitter is a great tool for social networking as well as business applications. Businesses and non profits have found that Twitter is a cheap and effective way to get the word out about their products and services. In order to make it work for you, you have to build a network of other people who use Twitter. It is a kind of self-fulfilling marketing ploy, and one that works well based on the size of your customer base — in the millions at this point.

On my part, I use it for personal use. There are times that I use it to sell some items but I don't normally do that.

Twitter allow us for social networking, as people are using that for different purposes. but for an internet marketer twitter is the best network to grab targeted audience from different locations. if you want to have good traffic from twitter then you must have good community and network.
try to join the comunities they are related to your niche and geographical location where you are offering your products and services. the rest your story must have some thing new, and unique that people come and read them. the final thing is that you must have good socila network avoid claiming others, so that it will increase the number of your followers.
