Hello everyone,
Copied this from my blog; hope it helps some people!
Surely there are significant amount of new blogs out there that are in need of some direction. These are the most important things you can do to your blog before you even start publicizing it.
1. COME UP WITH A TITLE WITH SEVERAL KEYWORDS IN IT. The Title is what everyone sees on the top of your web browser. It is also what Google tends to take into account when your website is being searched. It is important to include not just one keyword, but a few. For instance, my site uses: "Ads Cash - Follow My Quest for Online Money and Passive Income". There are several keywords in this compact title that should draw attention to my site: Ads, Cash, Online Money, Passive Income. All of these are somewhat related and really sum up what my site will be about. This should be the same for you.
2. KEEP YOUR SITE SIMPLE AND ORGANIZED. I cannot stress this one enough. People want to be able to get from Point A on your site to Point B without going through a bunch of eye-sore bull crud. You ought to have a central reason for having your site, and everything needs to be spinning around this central cause. That does not mean your site needs to have EVERYTHING related to your topic. Be unique and post things that are in YOUR opinion. This will be what keeps people coming back and interested in you and your site.
3. USE COLORS THAT MAKE READING EASIER. Ordinarily, that would mean dark lettering on light background. Think about this one: You've just started your blog for what purpose? So people can read it. If your site hurts your audience's eyes to read, you've just defeated yourself.
4. DO NOT SEEM DESPERATE. This can be taken in many contexts, but mostly I'm referring to excess ads or excess groups that you belong to. Really, you do not want to seem like you NEED your audience there; you just WANT them to join you. So if you WANT people to click on your ads, then do it discretely where you compromise your maximum profits and a truckload of ads on your site, and your audience's ideal ad-free site for maximum enjoyment. There is a happy medium where everyone is happy with the results of your website. Also, if you are subscribed to every blog community, web community, and money making opportunity community, that's awesome, but it makes you seem like you are needing something. It's just uncool and it clutters up your website with useless advertising.
5. TAG ALL YOUR POSTS WITH KEYWORDS. This point is much like #1 in that you want to surround your posts around central keyword themes. Firstly, this keeps your posts focused at all times, but also it makes Google's job easier to get your website out there when people are searching for these key terms. Try to include your keyword tags in your post titles.
6. BRAND YOURSELF. Whether it is a nice picture of you, a cartoon, something you drew, a picture of a mountain; whatever. You need something that gives your viewer an image of your site and what it is all about. This will also make you unique and different from all the other blog users using standard templates.
7. BE AVAILABLE. Include a way for your readers to contact you to give you critical feedback, suggestions, rebuttals, and possibly insults. Whatever it is, you want to stay connected to your readers, and believe it or not, your readers want to stay connected to you.
8. MAKE YOUR PURPOSE KNOWN. It shocking to me how many sites there are that you come across, and no matter where you look, you do not understand the point of why the site exists. I recommend making an 'About' page that explains what the goal of your site is and why you are even bothering with it. Also, you should include try to connect with the reader on this page by expressing your interests and making you seem a little more human.
