Full Version: Squidoo Lenses Vs Squidoo Groups

Zacman
OK Squidsters,

I've found myself concentrating more on starting groups at squidoo rather than building more lenses.

Not that I don't build lenses, I just built one the other day, but I do have more groups that I run/manage than I do lenses at Squidoo.

Here is part of my reasoning. First of all, I have had 6 or more groups show up in the top 10 of the top 100 groups at squidoo for significant periods of time.

I have one that's #3 right now. Two of my groups in SEO and Affiliate marketing are #1 & 2, one being the top group in the category for about two months now.

I'm not going to share all my techniques but let me just say usually these groups take me about 15-20 minutes tops to build.

The reason is #1 I've built tons of them and B I usually build a group I already have content for and on a topic that I have already been promoting elsewhere.

Granted I'm not going to win a popularity contest at google for the primary keyword since they usually are a very high demand niche. (which makes them attractive to other squidsters)

I've started making lenses using the same techniques as my groups which rank well at Squidoo and my highest ranking lense is....let's see, I'll be right back....#1732 over all, and #24 in SEO & Affiliate Marketing, which is my best showing so far and it's less than a week old.

So I guess what I'm saying is for me groups are easier to rank well for at Squidoo.

What's everyone else think?

Cheers,
Zac

Zac, it`s interesting to read your take on groups at Squidoo. I think you should do what works for you. Groups are certainly a good way to go if you can get enough other lensmasters to join and support you. And while all that`s going on your own lens(es) should benefit from getting `seen` that much more often.

Well done on your success story. thumbup(1).gif

Thanks Realist,

My latest group is now #2 over all groups at squidoo!

I've been getting traffic to my other membership site from that group so it is working very well.

Lensmasters at squidoo look for popular groups to promote their own lenses so I get quite a bit of targeted traffic.

Working out pretty well.

Cheers,
Zac

Zac, you're an inspiration.

I've only just started to build a couple of lenses (work in progress - not even published them yet) and this has shown me what I need to be working towards from the outset.

Enjoy your posts on 'whydowork' as well, by the way. speak_cool.gif

Just so you know (since this thread is a bit out of date) groups aren't currently working. There are many problems with them and they've been working on fixing them for a long time.

Just something to consider.

Thanks Danielle.

You know, I didn't even realise it was an old thread. Jumped in without looking, I guess rolleyes.gif

I appreciate you giving me the heads up.

I go for Squidoo Lenses. Most webmasters and clients are always looking up to Squidoo Lenses to build good traffic for them. They also paid someone who can create Squidoo lenses.

Create lenses and join groups. No need to start groups unless you have sufficient spare time.

I know this thread is getting old by now, but this is exactly was I was thinking as I'm reading through this. The idea of building up both groups AND lenses is great in a perfect world... but who has the time? I tend to focus on taking care of priority #1 (ie. building lenses) and if I have time, I'll work on other stuff. Good insight though.

I hope Zacman comes back to contribute to this thread again. I'd like to know how his groups are doing these days.

I have never concentrated my efforts on groups. But now that you mention it I should try to see what happens. Well, I think that maybe combining both will make much sense!
