Yahoo Groups are a good way to get a group started on a subject of particular interest to you.
Or you can just join others` groups which are like a community.
If you have your own site it`s very useful to help in getting your message out to others, and provide updates on what`s happening on your site.
If you are interested in links, although some pages are `nofollow` the actual `links` pages are all `dofollow` which might just help with your PR. Spamming though, as you can imagine, is strongly discouraged at Yahoo Groups.

I am member of few professional yahoo groups & pretty happy with how this helps me connect with fellow professionals. with regard to online income/ marketing, i wonder how lucrative this may be compared to facebook groups or twitter lists ???

I certainly agree with you. But the thing is...it's an avenue where you can also promote some of your online business as well. You might stumble upon to one of your yahoo group member looking for something...say money making business over the internet. Isn't it great feeling helping others find something useful, beneficial to them.

What if you used Yahoo groups in conjunction with Facebook groups? Facebook groups have a lot of the same features, and allow for all the members to communicate with each other (and get notified when a change has been made.) It is a horse a piece, I guess.

I don't even think that people still use yahoo groups nowadays. anyways, in terms of facebook group, i don't really see that much marketing there. most of the groups out there are out for social stuffs and some are secured and private. specially for niched groups. There are a few groups though but I don't really know of any or heard of any success behind marketing in FB groups.

Yeah, its a good way. But people there don't get convinced so easily to buy something if you are doing affiliates. I tried it hard there but only one sale. After one month.

One should know the exact strategy of how to promote in Yahoo Groups. This method did not work for me and I gave up working with yahoo groups.
