How do I know this and why? I live in Costa Rica

I was just at Liberty Reserves' office (in Escazu Costa Rica not far from the International airport in San Jose) in December and what I saw was what is pictured in the links above. I met with one of the founders a company attorney and a compliance officer there. I can call any of them up anytime to ask them questions. I'm sure they will not do this with normal clients but I'm building a relationship with them. My only complaint is that they are not to quick to respond both in email and by phone but they do exists where they say they are and the pictures on their website are of their actual building and business. I was there.

I took pictures myself to show friends as well. I have no idea if LR has internal problems but in my meeting with them, I was very impressed with their operation, their office, future plans I can not reveal and with the answers to my questions.

I'm all for exposing potential problems... but this article is a flat out lie and BS.

Who ever wrote that article is up to no good! hellno.gif

Perhaps, is jealousy of the great success of Liberty Reserve.

As far as I know, LR has an office in Costa Rica, but it is hard sometimes to believe in news without having a proper argument.

I cant tell you if it is normal. As I have read, sometimes they are very slowly answering. However, dont you need an exchanger in order to deposit some money in your LR account? As far as I know, first you need to find an exchanger, then you can make it!

I know. But i made some questions about other things and they dont even answer me. So if they take so many time to answer me when i get a problem with my money in LR i will have to wait weeks or months to get a simple answer from them?

Try using their Live Chat service, I always have good success with them and they answer your questions in real time, so, no wait, no fuss. It's on the homepage. Give it a try.

After much frustration from having every funding withdrawn from my account, I ask LR support for help. I go none. Below you will find my most recent support ticket to them: Warning, it's long but people need to know what they (LR) are doing or should I say not doing to protect our accounts.

Liberty Reserve Support,

You are well aware of the API hole and the fact that our accounts are being drained due to your poor security. I would not be surprised to learn that someone in your employ was a part of this huge scam. Your unwillingness to reply to people on a one on one basis is evidence that you are hiding something.

Regardless of what we send in the way of seeking support, we get the same "canned" response as seen below. "get and Attorney"/"Get a court order" does not qualify as a response to either of my support tickets seeking help to secure my account from my (in this case) Lithuanian) hacker. It was not my email that was hacked nor was it my computer so in the end that leaves only my LR account. (It might be interesting to know that I have 6 other Pay Processors, none of which got "hacked". Now isn't it odd that only LR was compromised?

I was told by LR to disable any API being used however, I had never enabled API. What's funny is that LR enabled API without my permission. (Yes I went into my account to check and there were no API enabled but my history shows the API logo on many of my transactions. Including the ones that were fraudulently withdrawn as soon as the account was funded with even the smallest of earnings from one account or another).

In my last support email, I asked you to block an IP from Lithuania (Considering I am from the USA) . This individual was clearly withdrawing all funds being deposited to my account. I did not ask you to replace the stolen funds, I asked you to block an IP address that was clearly not mine! How hard would it have been for you to block an IP address per request by the account owner? This only adds to the suspicion that you either support the thieves or are in partnership with them.

Your refusal to allow phone access to account holders is a huge red flag. Who ever heard of a company that transfers a great deal of money every day, not allowing phone access to their members?
Clearly, you are giving a false address for your headquarters as noted here.

"In accordance with the terms of our service our firm has checked the following address:
Torre Fuentes del Obelisco, 2do Piso, Codigo postal 1265, Escazu, Costa Rica, Central America, for availability of Liberty Reserve S.A. (Registration number: 3-101-446858) there.
Our check has shown that the specified address is not related to Liberty Reserve S.A. (Registration number: 3-101-446858) and probably here is a kind of data falsification on the site."

LR, you may think you are safe from US Laws and who knows? You might be for a while. What I can promise you is that I will see to it that you are, reported to ever consumer agency that will listen, LR will be blacklisted on every email I send, Every Blog I write, Every website I build, and every customer I work with will be encouraged to do the same.

Close or block my account if you wish, (you will only be blocking the fraudulent activity being supported by or perhaps incurred from within LR). Feel free to send me another one of your "canned" responses, It will be added to my consumer information as are the previous responses.

Sincerely,

Dear Linda.

If they were able to pass your IP protection, it means that the hackers have access to your email address as well.

Please note that Liberty Reserve can only suspend accounts, reverse any transaction or provide information about other account holders upon receval of a valid court order or subpoena from a law enforcement agency. Hey LR, I never asked you to do any of the above, I asked you to block and ISP that was stealing money from my account. (LB)

Please seek advice with a legal counsel of your choice regarding any situation.

Please follow all the security tips of our previews emails in order to protect your account.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sandro

Just one small question, you mention every funding was withdrawn, does that mean after the first funding was withdrawn, you funded your LR account again? --> Or received spends still, acc to acc)

I'm not to experienced with this type of stuff, having never had someone in my LR accs yet, (as in compromised)

touch wood,

I'd probably do something like never go near the compromised acc again.

Knowing no better solution blush.gif

edited to add, maybe I should ditch that blush smiley above, as I may indeed be experienced the opposite way , with keeping my LR accounts un compromised

I should have been more clear. I have not had LR very long and it seemed like it took forever to get the proper verification documents to them and approved. Once I did, I had a specific use for the funds I placed in that account. I then used my funds to Invest in some online opportunities and all went well.

About a month later, I went to those investment programs and cashed out my earnings (3 different programs). That was when the problem occurred. Each of those 3 programs did indeed pay my earnings to LR. When I went to check the status the next day and it showed all 3 amounts had been paid and withdrawn sometime overnight. The IP address started with 78. and I tracked it down to Lithuania, the name used was Dimon.

Never having had this problem, I asked for support and was told that my computer must have been compromised or at least my email. (Neither was true or I would have had problems in many other areas) LR (I learned later, has a history of blaming any problem on the account holder and flatly refused to do anything.

I have removed my LR ID from the original investment programs and am now begging for permission to cash out to a different processor. (Many, perhaps most, pay programs insist that if you upgrade with a certain processor you can not cash out with another.)

I am not allowing any money to be sent to LR and am still trying to get permission to change processors but I may be losing money again if they rollover any earnings not cashed out.

Trust me, I am done with them but you can be sure that I will warn people against using their service.

I hope I cleared this up for you.

Beats me, I have no clue but I'd be sure to junk what, who or where it was asked for, when opening an account

It helps new acc users to read the LR site from top to bottom,

Yesterday a new user got confused and reported their own sci page to them as a phishing site

All a learning experience,

I expect it is also hard for users to accept that they may have let their computer be compromised, resulting in LR acc being emptied.

While I don't recall exactly which documents they asked for, most processors need ID that matches with the address you gave, some even ask for a utility bill with your address, also voided check is asked for when you want to use your checking account to transfer $ in or out of account. This can be time consuming but I understand the need for much of this documentation. It seems like it may have taken a couple of weeks before I was "approved". sad.gif

I can assure you that my computer was as clean as a whistle. How do I know? I took their advise and ran all anti-virus, malware and spyware that I do on a weekly basis anyway. I have 3 computers that I work from, all in my home and no one else uses them. Every scan came out squeeky clean. I take exceptional measures to make sure that my computers are clean and running up to grade. Your comment sounded a bit like the rubbish LR sends out when they insist the problem must be on the account members end without even looking into the situation.
tdinoz
My comment is what it is

If you did indeed send verification documents to LR in order to open your account this would explain the whole catastrophe.

Was it requested via an email, from someone that forgot your first name? doh.gif

I know better than to pay attention to anything that looks like it is from a PayProcessor that does not address me by my name. As for how I sent the documentation,, I was working on getting several of them going at the time so I can't remember but a couple of them had me send the documentation through their own program and at least one had me send them via snail mail.

I'm quite paranoid about attachments and never open anything I am not expecting from an associate. I had a very bad experience several years ago and wiped out much of my information. I had to completely reformat and then had to change account access info my my accounts. It was at least a month before I was actually able to function normally with my business.

I am convinced that LR will not help me and have closed the account. I fortunately did not lose a large amount and I am chalking that up as the cost of education. You can trust that I will warn people about LR any time the subject comes up and perhaps save someone else from this problem.

Thanks for letting me vent about it, I feel better already.

Hi there! Now I am very nervious! Could tell me under what circumstances Liberty Reserve asked you for identification documents and in which format for them to be sent? The reason I ask is because I have several LR accounts and doing a lot of transfers (both in and out) via an exchanger, and no documents were ever requested! Now I am getting worried as I have a large sum of money in there!!! Thanks!

You can't transfer $ in or out of your LR account using a checking account. Your story sounds bogus.

Can you show us the e-mail in which you have been asked to verify your account and send the docs ?
austinrampt1
Syber is right. A lot of things dont seem to add up. I've heard of LR asking for verification docs after blocking an account for one reason or another but never anything having to do with banking information. Are you sure it wasnt an exchanger that asked you for that to verify you bank info for a buy or sell order?
smartiebox
I just don't think that a company will function for 8 years without an office. The info on e-Commerce Journal is outdated and irrelevant.

So its time to change over from LR sad.gif Anyways we should not use LR for large amounts..

Hard to believe that this big company does not have the office, do you believe?

Liberty Reserve has no support either!

Even though they have a Contact Form, there are no replies.

Using their email addresses at compliance, security, and support gets no replies either.

Using the error button does not bring a reply either.

Using the chat, the CSR states that my email address does not match my Account Number.

I cannot get into my account because after logging in, it states my ISP changed and that a verification email has been sent. I am not receiving that verification email. All those ways I stated above trying to get it have been ignored and scammed. They do not want me to get into my account so they can keep the money.

Since there is no phone number to Liberty Reserve, I believe they do not have an office.
