I almost exclusively stick to the EUR/USD because I understand it's movements from years of trading it, how about you ??

I only trade the Aud/Usd, which is very boring but after more then 2.5 years i have worked out 1 good trade per week with a properly funded account makes boring very profitable!

It's very important to understand the movement & trends of the pair your trading, I used to solely trade the GBP/USD it seems like it's a bit easier to trade based on fundamentals than other pairs.
Tonset
I used to do EUR/USD, but now I trade GBP/JPY mostly.

It can be an account killer if you don't have the right money management though, i blew up two mini accounts in my first year trading it.

Turned out to be some of the best lessons i ever learned!

Well yes it does depend on your analytics & trading style. Different traders trade different currency pairs for a variety of reasons.

I think the style of trading is the most important for a choice which currency pair you'll trade.

I agree your style definitely has a lot to do with how successful (or unsuccessful) you're going to be with a certain pair.

& good luck with the EUR/USD it's a great pair if you know how to work it!

The JPY pairs are my favourite but of them all, I have a near perfect understanding of GBP/JPY which averages around 240pips daily. With proper money management, maybe only silver can come close to GJ in terms of profitability.
Just for the records, we would see GBP/JPY do a 1,000 pip move next week. It would touch around 159 region then we can get set for 6 months of a bear market until February or March 2010.

Well it is always profitable to avoid trading in a thin market.

I always suggest newbies to trade on popular currency pairs and avoid thin market. The lack of public participation will cause difficulties in liquidate your positions. If you are beginners, we suggest the big five: USD/EUR, USD/JPY, USD/GBD, USD/CHF, and EUR/JPY.

EUR/USD is the most liquid pair and the pair which has the lowest spread with most brokers.

Well it can be a very profitable pair but it depends how you trade. There's a wealth of traders who earn huge profits from each major im sure and even more who lose money trading the same currency pairs, it all depends on your techniques.

The USD/JPY has just never been a good pair for me. It seems I rarely make anything when trading that pair, I usually just stick to the basics smile.gif

I now focus on EUR/USD because I tried the BPG/USD and found it too volatile. I also can judge its movement.
