Gotcha! Thought I was going to talk about beer, didn't ya!

Do you have a friend or family member that always has a bottle of water in their hand? Did you every wonder if that bottled water was really good for you or not?

My husband come home yesterday and told me that he and 2 of the chemists in his office decided that they were going to do some research on bottled water.

In the office where he works, if you do not have a bottle of water on your desk, you're not a team player. Everytime they have a meeting, everyone has to have a bottle of water. Everyone!

When we lived in Texas, Mike had been told by an Ozarka water salesman that their water was filtered and actually had very little to no mineral value. So, it started him to thinking. He and 2 chemists collected several bottles of water and samples of tap water and ran analysis on all.

The bottled waters were 5 of the most popular brands not including Ozarka. I guess they don't sell it here. The samples were from the office kitchen tap, our home, and each of the chemist's homes. Now, water is supposed to have minerals in it for it to be of nutritional value and make water more useful to the body. Just drinking water with no minerals is like eating cake and cookies. No nutritional value = nothing good for the body. Just waste.

All of the bottled waters had no minerals or nutritional content of any kind. The tap water on the other hand had minerals and none of them were to an excess that would be necessary for filtration. Filtered tap water was very low in minerals.

After their findings, they posted the results of their findings...with a comment.

If you think that bottled water you are drinking is good for something...you're right! It will do something. Make you pee!

The next day, the lady that orders the bottled water cancelled their order and bought everyone sports bottles instead. smile.gif

What about if you have your own water distiller

Edit: I've tested water before and bottled had more than tap. Maybe it was nitrates though

From what I understand, distilling takes out everything, minerals and impurities, leaving nothing but H2O.

Some bottled waters have minerals added. I can't remember who puts vitamins and minerals in their water and then some of the flavored waters have added minerals. Mike and the chemists' analysis did find nitrates in bottled water. Depending on where you live, tap water will have a lot of chlorine.

If you don't like the chlorine taste, fill a bottle with tap water and let it sit over night. The chlorine will "off gas" and the water will taste better. wink.gif

Evian claims it is mineral water. Ice Mountain claims it is spring water. Ozarka claims it is spring water.

Most bottled water companies fill their bottles from a well, chlorinate the water to kill bacteria and then filter it. After all, you can't go to a spring and dip thousands of bottles everyday. The mineral content differs from day to day depending on where the water comes from.

Ozarka, based in Texas, claims to be spring water, but I know for a fact, they drilled a well, chlorinated the water to kill any bugs, filter it and then bottle it. The process removes or eliminates minerals. I think this is why we are starting to see some companies put minerals back into the water. Vitamin stores carry mineralized water, meaning minerals have been added to the water.

There was a big write up in the Dallas Morning News about how Ozarka had drained all local wells dry in the area around the city of Canton. So...they moved their plant to Hawkins, Texas. A small town that welcomed them with open arms after other cities refused to give them a permit to drill a well.

where i live (india), if you drink tap water you end up with jaundice in a couple of weeks
here its unthinkable for anyone to even dring tap water
so, we do have an aquaguard which purifies the water, minerals or no minerals
it beats drinking tap water and dying early tongue4.gif

This is interesting.

I thought the sole purpose of water was to put water back into your system and food is supposed to give you everything else.

I dont like that fact that nitrates are entering my system.

Can't remember which bottled water company but it came out like 300 or 400 some ppm. Tap water here was just a little less.

We have our own water cooler and the company who sends the big jugs of water tested out at 10ppm.

Might have to look it up to find out but there is a certain amount of voltage you can run through a glass of water and it will make everything in the water visible. Its pretty gross.

I think thats extremely bad since you can get all the minerals you need from other sources than water.

I never, ever, ever drink tap water. I dont even cook with tap water. What for? Chlorine! Its ment to kill bacteria in the water and pools, why the heck would you drink chlorine?

BTW Dasani is owned by Coke I think, and Dasani is water from the tap, not source water. I only drink pure source water with no chlorine nor fluoride.

Water does not only bring mineral value to your health, you are MADE out of water. "it only makes you pee" is purely wrong. It helps filter all the crap in your system and take it out. It makes all your organs functions better, your liver and kidneys will work better overall. Your uric acid will come out much better, too.

Minerals are good, but it does not mean that drinking water with no minerals "does not do anything"

I prefer bottled water. I think flavored water taste nasty but water with a squirt of lemon is good.

Years ago, there was the problem with some really bad stuff in bottled water. It seems that when the lines were disinfected, the disinfectant got in the water. Lots a of people got sick.

I know in some countries, bottle water is a necessity.

And, yes! Water should have minerals in it! It comes that way naturally.

I agree, but nowadays there are a lot more things in water that shouldn't enter our systems.

Agree but from my country basically every families use tap water now the gov. is trying to convince us to drink recycle but idont like that idea diablo.gif
Thinking of drinking water recycle from my body make me puke diablo.gif

Each choice has its pros and cons. I find that I end up drinking, filtered tap and bottled water.

With water being so good for you, you would think that it could be simpler.

Good point. Well put.
Something else people might not know is that coca-cola adds a bit CO2 to every bottle of dasani, It helps keep it fresh. If you dont know, CO2 is the gas that makes soda fizz.
Folks should also know that 99% of water that does NOT say it is exclusively from a spring is always filtered and otherwise processed TAP WATER.

It is so easy to open a bottled water company, All you need is a warehouse. If the local water is free all the better. And some filtering equipment. Then you bottle it, The plastic bottles used are very cheap when bought in bulk.
You pay maybe a few cents per bottle. And you charge 1$ or more and you make a killing.

So what is my point? if your buying bottled water that is NOT spring water, You are wasting money.

Are you aware of simple earth science? IE how the earth works.

Every drop of water whether its from a spring, the ocean or your tap is recycled, Its just been recycled by the earth instead of human made machines.

So there is nothing wrong with drinking recycled water. Most cities use reclaimed water for watering plants instead of pumping it to your home because of the stigma, But there is nothing wrong with it. It is NOT gonna make you sick. As long as its been properly filtered and ozonated to kill all potential organisms, And what the filters dont get will only make your immune system stronger.
