I am having Windows ME and it crashes often. I do autosurf a lot. Please advise me on what protection, antivirus or whatever that is needed for my computer. If they can come free would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. sad.gif

maybe some error with your motherboard.
thiec
I think you better upgrade with Win2k or Win XP. As i know, many bug in ME.
If your comp spec is lower than OS requirement then just use Win 98SE.
Install firefox for browser.

I use Windows SE and it never crashes tongue4.gif

Fly with firefox. It has good wings. You might not crash harhar.gif
serenacyh
Hi Inspirasi, sorry for my poor computer literacy but what is Windows SE? Something newer than Windows XP? unsure.gif As for Firefox, downloading now as we speak! w00t2.gif

window special edition? or win 98 second edition?
chinbiz
Remember to secure your PC with:
anti-virus: AVG Free edition, adaware: free
or Spybot-search and destroy: free
finally remember to patch your window xp
with their latest security patches.
serenacyh
Hi chinbiz, I know AVG, got that, will download adaware as well, I can download spybot too, used that before but what is security patches? How to "patch window xp"? blink.gif

To "patch window xp" Open Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Windows Update.

And please install window xp service pack 2.
serenacyh
Thank you very much, p3nguinX. biggrin.gif Let me see...windows update...where are you...windows update... rolleyes.gif
chinbiz
To patch window xp OS go to:
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdat...t.aspx?ln=en-us
or www.msn.com, on your left of the screen
under Technology select Microsoft update,
This updates are to secure the window xp OS of known
security loopholes.
Do this as often as possible.
Like what p3nguinX has advise; patch your OS
with service pack2.
Hope it helps.
serenacyh
Hi chinbiz, hmm...when I clicked on that link that you provided here, I got pages of explanations. I think I might already have downloaded the service pack 2 "unknowingly" when I did the windows update earlier. rofl4.gif screwy.gif <-- I am kind of like this when it comes to computers. post-36326-1110185726.gif

you can get ZoneAlarm free version.

Why this forum ? Do you only post here ? Yea maybe some members here have 'different' motives.

Sometimes, when 'fishing' (using ref. links) for referrals in the forum, we get sharks instead of fishes. fear2.gif

That is where the PARANOIA comes in like I said! First, I will start making "strange" remarks like the above ninja.gif and next perhaps I will downright ACCUSE someone! post-69220-1110229459.gif shocking.gif screwy.gif

Actually I am an active member elsewhere too but the hacked site is one of my banners here at my signature! And this is the ONLY place I put up these two banners! user posted image

As of now I find avast AV at avast.com really beat those paid AV programs. For non-business use is free, register lasts >1yr. renewable. You'll need ccleaner from cleaner.com too. Use it everyday after surfing. Avast prevents virus, trojan, worms entry and the cleaner cleans out all that excess unnecessary temp files got from browsing the net, esp surfing. Expect over 70mb for firefox use and around 21++ for opera and maxthon, ambrowser and the like to be cleaned from your harddisk and keep your compie young and sprighty. There are others like spyboy search and destroy I think. Used it before, it;s good. But after use of those earlier 2 mentioned, found not necessary. Hope that helps biggrin.gif
