In fact, one should pay much more attention to the IQ (Idiot Quotient) of a program than the number of "cheerleaders" (which is always disputable) and the intensity of their "cheerleading" (if that is, in fact, what they are doing). "Cheerleading" itself, appropriately defined, is a factor in any program's IQ. "Cheerleading" is a problem in its own right, but if anyone doesn't think it is symptomatic of a deeper and more terrible systemic problem, they need to realign their thinking, because the limited scope of their assessment is only contributing to the IQ of the arena in general. So how does one gauge IQ? There are numerous indicators, with irrational optimism being only one of them. Very generally, message boards and forums are an excellent metric: the quantity of posts about a program will increase in inverse correlation to the decrease in the quality of posts. The 12DP forum, with which most here are familiar, is an excellent example of this: thousands upon thousands of posts containing nothing but sheer nonsense, which betrayed the disturbing level of naivete common to most of the posters there. Unsophisticated, slothful, reactionary, paranoid, and sloppily greedy posters are indicative of an unsophisticated, slothful, reactionary, paranoid, and sloppily greedy overall membership, from which nothing good can come. As I recently posted somewhere else, once a body of thousands of minimally aware, unreflective and short-sighted posters gather together to converse about *their* pet money-making program, they became a massive, irrational force which cannot be contained or checked. Before you know it, some small-minded, skittish sort has contacted e-gold on the basis of some ridiculous reason and gotten the program's account(s) blocked, or the "brilliant" marketing efforts of some enterprising yet oblivious college kids has caught the interest of the pathetic local paparazzi and, in turn, the SEC. Some other IQ indicators are: the "gambling" mentality, lack of concern about DD (often accompanied with silly talk about "belief" and "faith", as though a program were an ideological or religious system), repetition of requests for information that is easily found after some minimal effort, unstable individuals who swing between avid enthusiasm and grave pessimism on the basis of simple news items (e.g., interpreting an Admin's temporary use of dial-up or decision to launch their own PP as a scammer signal), the presence of referral links for blatant ponzis/scams in many forum/board member's signatures or talk of "diversifying" into such programs (this shows a general lack of research, foresight and responsibility), pettiness (criticizing others for trivial matters, often because they don't manifest the traits of the critic's notion of a model program member), elitism, and of course, cheerleading. Now, scammers love it if their program has a high IQ and will even become emboldened by it. This brings to mind another important correlation: A scammer's level of sophistication, combined with the IQ of their program, is directly correlated to the degree of their success in their endeavor to accomplish their goal (i.e., defraud their members). Members of a high IQ program are easily molded and manipulated as long as payments continue to flow, due in large part to the common misconception that a program cannot be a scam if it is paying. Admins of legitimate programs, on the other hand, prefer a low IQ because they want intelligent, informed members who will not do things to encumber (e.g. submitting tickets for questions already answered in the FAQ or somewhere the site) or disrupt the operations of their program. If any program talks about going "private", it is because doing so will ensure that the program IQ remains low, or at least at a manageable level. Often scammers are able to attract members with "going private" announcements not only because the window of opportunity is closing and because membership in a "private program" gratifies the pride of the member, but also because most HYI participants with any sense are drawn to a program in which an open membership will not let the program's IQ from escalate out of control. In short, then, those who are squawking about "cheerleading" ought to be analyzing a programs Idiot Quotient, because that is the better and more complete index of the program's health (from the member end of things) by far. If a program seems to be dumbing down, you are witness a decidedly negative development. Well after 4 days of slaving it out with dial up, we got our hi-speed back today at 4 pm !!!! We are pretty behind but have keep it within our terms, and over the next day or so we will be getting back to normal operations. With hi-speed I can do things about 10 times faster. We still have 13th payouts with alertpay and we are going to finish 14th payouts with e-gold today and start on the 15th. We are sorry for any delay.

However, just for the mathematical record, it would only shorten his time by the time it would take to double one's money, or about 1.7 cycles*, or roughly 17 days. This is because starting with 40$ today would be the same as starting with $20 about 17 days ago then doubling it. That's the nature of compounding. This in no way detracts from the sentiment that the gesture embodies. Just don't want anyone to miscalculate prospective time-frames. *for those who might care, CYCLES = ln(2) / ln (1 + interest rate), = ln(2) / ln(1.5) = ~1.7 where '2' was chosen because we're calculating the time to double one's money.
