Full Version: Affiliate Marketing On Craigslist?

I was reading an ebook, I forget which one, and it gave an example of how this guy made a killing on Craigslist by combining it with a dating affiliate site like Match.com.

Basically these dating affiliate sites pay per lead, meaning some give you $1 for every free signup you get plus a percentage of any upgrades.

The guy simply created a personal ad in several different craigslist areas and asked them to email him. He then emailed them back telling them to sign up for a free account at whateverdating.com and they would then be able to view his profile. He got $1 for each one who signed up.

Morals:

Of course he had to act like some 22 year old hotty, but it worked and made him money. Is this morally ok in your mind?

Some people would say that money talks and BS walks and thats the name of that tune! But I don't think that this would be good with my conscience. crying.gif

Well I do believe in morality. Morals are often weighed against money. You have show your charactor when needed. Be your self. that is what I beleive
Utley103
Yes but how immoral is it really? I mean People who are going online looking for a hot date have to know everything out there isn't legit. Is it hurting anyone, thats my question I guess?

Maybe wasting a minute of some guys time that obviously has nothing better to do then look for an online date anyway, right?
shadow777
lol the things ppl do

And we wonder why people just scream SCAM! whenever we just say "Make money online". It's this kind of immoral, unethical bad apples that spoils our game.

And there was the Rich guy who teaches people to run bogus ads for a puppy, then sends them a link for a dog training course when they inquire about the (invisible, non-existant) dog....Scams R Us!
delords
Well for me that's still like an in genuine way to make money online,
You can still get people to signup by just writing a good post,

I joined an affiliate program like that requesting that you change your
personality to attract response but my conscience wouldn't allow me
continue with them so i just dropped it and did other things
moneymakersguide
I wouldn't feel good about fabricating something just to make a sale. I think there's this site called Craigspimp that hires people to do just that and work as affiliates.
majidmaskat
that is just genuis who agrees, i mean that shows the number of ideas that there are avalibale on the net? Have you heard the self made millionaire that became a millionaire selling paper clips?????????
vikramhjain
hey i also came cross such ads only asking you to join such dating site to view here profile and image.but i think its not a genuine way to earn money.
bosshawg503
i make pretty good money on craigslist advertising my site Edit: Spam. Link removed its a way to earn extra income from home online... works for me and it brings in plenty of new referrals
Mreese601
No I wouldn't do it! that's not a good way go make money online. There better ways to make a ton of money helping people. Just look for the right opportunity out there.

I like this post. Very enlightening.

There are lots of offers out there that can easily make your head spin, especially if you're new - like me. I had several false starts, just relying on very enticing invitations, and was actually quite disappointed, to the point that I automatically dismissed any internet "opportunity" as a waste of time and money. Which is why I decided to actually find out about a Making Money Online offer, IN PERSON. I went out of my way to meet this guy, just to make sure I am dealing with a real person, with a real product - something of real value - to offer. I'm certainly glad I did because the guy was for real. His story is remarkable. He started out as a homeless person, and ended up being one of the widely recognized successful online entrepreneurs - such that he was recently interviewed on FoxNews, CNN, etc. So there are some legit ones out there, doing business on the up and up. Restored my faith, somehow that there are not only scams, but also some true opportunities out there in the internet.

One of this guy's hottest ventures now is the revolutionary software that let's people effectively find the lowest prices and the biggest savings on online purchases. What's even better is that this software is offered FREE - at least for now. Rather than my describing it to you, you can find out and judge for yourself. Listen to this rags-to-online-riches guy himself, as he is being interviewed on FoxNews.

P.S. My only regret is, I did not have my camera with me when I personally met and shook hands with this guy. Well, at least, I got his personal autograph on the book which he gave me - Free!

A person could get into a scary situation in my opinion. I don't believe I would ever try something like that.
SMP
I wouldn't do it but I can easily see why people do. Purely in terms of making money, it's a pretty clever idea.

I'm on the net for the long haul, though, and credibility is everything with customers, affiliates and partners alike.

this is normal for craigslist

So how does one manage to get ads on Craig's list without getting deleted left and right? Is it possible to advertise a money making opportunity on Craigs list without getting canned?
karimkinch
There are quite few people using similar tactics on facebook and there was even an ebook doing the rounds teaching how to do the same thing on Weblog. You could make a few bucks in the short term, but the secret to long term success online is getting people to know, like and trust YOU and this is not going to go far towards doing that. pirate.gif
livethewayyouwant
I wouldn't do that if you want to make a living on the internet longevity is the most important thing! That might last for a few weeks but end the long run what will that accomplish u wanna live of the net for years my friend not weeks! Any questions feel free to email me at LiveTheWayYouWant@Gmail.Com

There are a close to infinite number of ways to make money. There are worse than this guy of course - he's not doing anyone any physical harm, but why do business in this way when you can add to the world instead of taking away? - pretending to be a 22 year old hottie, if he's a bearded old man is not adding to the world.

This guy is obviously creative - so he has the ability. Hopefully he'll choose a more positive route next time.

craigslist can be full of Bs I read about a guy who pretended be a woman trying to fulfil a fantasy, well turns out he talked some dude into coming over and savagely raping the girl impersonating her online and the dude does it then goes to prison now for rape along with the guy who pretended be the girl.
Jericho34
I don't see anything wrong with it. The problem I have is when people are just using it to get email addresses to spam. If the person goes to the site and signs up there then it was their choice. I don't see any immorality in that. It's people who use it for malicious reasons that give the rest of us a bad name.

There are a ton of ways to legitimately make money on craigslist, it's just a matter of finding one that works for you.
sadhikar
Most of the business oriented people are shrewd, clever and cunning. It wasn't immoral for that guy to ask those girl to sign up for their profile. It's sheer cunningness.
imarketingguru
This worked way in the past - about a year ago it became completely saturated

Craigslist is filled with these types of ads. It is hard to determine whats real and whats BS. The good thing (for the guy) is if he does go to a dating website to meet a girl he met on Craigslist, and she ends up being fake, their are so many more "real" girls on the dating site...so I guess it's a win-win for both parties. The "fake" girl gets her commission and the guy gets to still meet hotties (which is why he was on CL in the first place).
miklanderson2
LOL...the lengths people will go to in order to get people's money. It is imaginative, I'll give him that.
wrahilly
Craigslist use to be one of my best ways of making money online, but not anymore. There are so many limitations on it now, it's hard to get anything to stick. I've actually stopped using Craigslist when they went to the PVA accounts.
roexpress87
I have done some affiliate marketing using craigslist. I have pretty good success with it. Some good tips to help would be make sure you have success and don't get flagged would be.

#1 Only post in cities that have high traffic
#2 Make sure you use high quality pictures or banners.
#3 Post in times when people are looking
#4 Make sure the product you are advertising is a good seller

I want to know what dating sites you go to. Most sites have 10 times as many guys than girls and half the girls that are there arent after a guy in the first place or are fake profiles.

I commonly get spam saying some girl 'saw my profile' or 'we talked before' and wants me to go to a link. There is a lot of it around even now. Most of it goes to junk mail and if it doesn't it soon is sent there.
