The Orange Savings Account from ING DIRECT offers an extraordinary 3.40% Annual Percentage Yield with no minimum balance requirement and no annual fees! And the 3.40% APY is NOT an introductory rate. It has been in effect since 09/23/05. Although interest rates can change, we promise that you will always earn a premium yield with the Orange Savings Account.
There's No Catch...
If you're like most people, you're probably asking who is ING DIRECT. ING DIRECT is the operating name of ING Bank, fsb (Member FDIC), a federally chartered savings bank, and part of ING (NYSE: ING), the eleventh largest financial institution in the world with more than $600 billion in assets. ING has been operating in the U.S. for over 100 years, with more than 11,000 employees working for ING companies.
Save More...
At ING DIRECT, we have one goal: we want to save you money. We can offer such a high rate without ever charging fees or requiring minimum balances because we've eliminated many expenses that other banks have, like managing and maintaining branches. We do business by Internet or telephone. That saves us money, and we pass the savings on to you.
It's Convenient And You Don't Need To Change Banks...
To make deposits or withdrawals, money is electronically transferred between your Orange Savings Account and the personal checking account you use to make your initial deposit. We handle it all - you don't need to make special arrangements, and you don't have to change banks! You can complete transactions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on ingdirect.com or by using our Interactive Phone Service. If you'd prefer, you can speak with an ING DIRECT associate, 7 days a week from 7 AM to 11 PM EST. Go to ingdirect.com or call 1-800-ING-DIRECT to learn more about ING DIRECT and our great rates.

ING direct is a very nice online bank. it's one of the few banks that lets you view your monthly interest as it accumulates. I also have some cash in their aggressive mutual fund that's had nice performance lately.

Just curious...
This has already been posted in Ads/promo folder, it's ok to be here too?
I've been banking with for a couple yrs. and made over 1K in interest.
The 3.4% is variable. I've seen it lower, and a lot higher.

3.40% means they divide it by 12 meaing months in the year..and then you get that amount right?

Not exactly. Remember most banks compound daily then credit the interest monthly. If you put 10k in an account and didn't touch it, you'd have $10,340 at the end of the year assuming the interest rate never went up or down during that time.

It's not exactly an online checking account, it's an online savings account attached to an outside checking account. It takes a step or two to withdraw so you have to think before you move your money, making it easier to save IMO.
I've been using it since the beginning of the year and making weekly deposits into the ING Direct savings account using their deposit feature. Love the interest rate!

Not trying to offend nobody, but all this eximent just to get 5% a year and $25 free???
My WAMU savings account with more than 10K gives me 10% A year...
even though, I rather invest my savings and I get a lot more....just my thoughts...
Good lock!
I'm going to have to call BS on this one. Wamu wouldn't offer anything over 6% or they will be losig money in the long run. It's a nice dream though.

WAMU has different savings plans This is from the California site: http://www.wamu.com/personal/accountchoice.../default_CA.htm Platinum Savings pays from .15 % to 4.76% apr (4.76% you need to have $250K + in your account) Basic pays .25% apr. CD's pay a little more. You can get details at their site.
So basically, ING Direct does pay more.

now the Orange Savings Account is 4.40% Annual Percentage Yield.
still higher than local bank.
and CD for 12 month term is 5.10%APY
it's not bad also.
No annual fee and $1 to start.
so I think ING Direct is better than local bank if you don't have $10000 to deposite.
btw if you want to open a account now is a good time because they give you $25 free to start.
pm me for more info.
