I thought I read somewhere that GOOGLE no longer really relies on meta tags that they are basically useless to google now. Could swore I read that or heard that... If I am wrong please advise...

Out of all the meta tags, I have heard that the least used one is the `keywords` tag, but even so, I would always place them in, why take the chance for just a few minutes extra work.
As for whether Google relies on meta tags, here`s what they say on the

I can`t see Google going to these lengths if meta tags weren`t of much use to them.
