I just got off the phone with EMO because my account was hacked into over the weekend. They made several charges on my credit card and then sent EMO's to another account and then to that person's E-gold account. Probably both of our accounts were hacked and they had also hacked his E-gold.
Imagine my suprise when I got an email saying you have just sent an EMO for $1000. In total it was $1800. furious.gif

By the way, I have all the protection on my computer and scan it daily.

He said that this has been happening a lot lately and they can't figure out why. If it is some special software or if it's info that some program admin has gotten.
He said it has been happening to people that log in all the time and to people that haven't logged in for months.

Just wanted to let you guys know so you can change your passwords and be aware.
WTF
Wow, sorry to hear that, grecia sad.gif

Thanks for posting about it and hope you get your money back sad.gif

Why not? Give reasons.

Well thats disturbing..... I hope you get your money back grecia. Thanks for letting us know. I haven't used EMO as of yet, but I'll be changing my password.

Interesting. My username/pass stopped working with EMO last week and my support request wasn't answered. I put in another one today and still haven't heard anything. No charges to anything but no response yet. Weird.

Sorry to hear that your account was hacked sad.gif.

Just want to let your know that having all available types of protection and scanning daily will not help if it is a new virus/worm/trojan horse/keylogger etc. With all these hackers going around, what we can do is not to open any programs or files from emails and use unique passwords for each site we visit.

Sounds like they deactivated your account, but it would be nice if they let you know about it.
It sounded to me like they were investigating alot of accounts.
I would call if I was you, because I've found they answer the phone more often than emails.

Actually, that's not exactly accurate. A good firewall(not Windows XP's either) will still save your butt even if all the anti-virus and anti-spyware miss it. That's assuming the hack originates from your own PC and it is not a hack directed at EMO's site itself. I'm not so sure if this wasn't a database attack on EMO and nothing to do with grecia's PC at this point.

I though I was the only one who had been through this.

I also got a call from EMO on Aug 29 that there had been an unauthorized attempt to transfer e-gold into my account from a "known scam IP" in Falls Church, VA. Even though I assured them that I had more security on my computer than the average person, I still had to jump through all the hoops to assure them that I didn't have a key-logging trojan on my computer. They gave me my account back. Fortunately this only took 24 hours.

While talking to them, I told them that due to the fact I am constantly travelling, I couldn't engage the "limited IP" security feature (which is what they were SURE I should do). Of course, the next weekend in Toronto I tried to access my account and was locked out. This time it took 2 days to get it back.

Even though the problem was resolved, I still left the conversation with the feeling that they were convinced it was my fault. A healthy amount of paranoia is a good thing, but good grief!

I wonder why they can't implement something like e-gold's PIN feature, that warns you of attempts to access your account from a different IP/browser. This works well for me, since I am generally aware of when I've changed networks!

Also, since the IP limit feature allows you to specify a range of IP addresses, wouldn't other customers of SBC DSL be able to access my account without any problem?

Would be rare for someone with the same IP to do that but it's possible...

I just got off the phone with them. They may add that email feature. That's the only good thing about e-gold tongue.gif

people who can't login and complain or lose money and complain, which side are you on?

if you can't login, call emo and talk to someone. I've had problems here and there as well, if you call, they take care of you. From what I can tell they go above and beyond to try and make sure you don't get ripped off. I would prefer to have my account locked, than lose my money. If you get phished, which most people here probably were, then you are complaining about losing money and not being able to login... it seems like you can't have it both ways. I for one would rather have my account locked, than lose my money.

as for the comments about getting hacked, it is simply not reasonable to assume that your emo, and e-gold were "hacked" so it's pretty apparent that you foolishly replied to e-mails like these ones, which you should have known were forgeries.

I was told that they will be releasing the emo secure card very soon, and that should help, but only if you use it. Perhaps less time in the forums, and more time thinking before clicking would be a good bet.

Here are 2 e-mails I have seen recently, and i'll not exactly what is wrong with each --

OK, so here is sample #1, here are points to bring up;

1. EMO does not sent HTML formatted e-mail
2. emo corp web site URL is http://www.emocorp.com not https://www.emocorrp.com
3. the SSL certificate was invalid for site listed below.
4. emo does not sent out details of IP addresses and account activity in e-mails, and certainly not in HEX.

ok, so you get the point on phishing e-mail # 1

ok, sample #2

1. I think emo is US based, so their english is halfway near to be good
2. emo does not sent such "warning" messages, they make you call them (as you complain about)
3. attachment was a virus
4. user profile ( x ) what the heck is that

you get the point --

Warning Message: Your services near to be closed.

and one attachment with the virus i said yesterday.

Subject: Warning Message: Your services near to be closed.

Dear user (name),

It has come to our attention that your Emocorp User Profile ( x ) records are out of date. For further details see the attached document.

I have not signed up for EMO yet, but I'm curious about something. Our credit union in our small town has warnings about counterfeit money orders and what to look for because there is a lot of money order activity in this area. We are in an agricultural area where a lot of people send money back to Mexico via money order and vice versa.

Have any of you used this printable money order? I can only imagine their reaction if I walked in with a money order printed on plain old printer paper.
RollinHigh
buy some of the EMO secure paper they have... not regular.. has the logos an watermarks and all that stuff....

plus they bank has to call and authorize it before it can be cashed anyways

If you using Secure Card before, the hacker can't login to your EMO even they have your password and email dance9bh.gif
I just testing that. By not enter the code from SC, i can't login. Activate SC as soon(ASAP) you got verification. This will insurance there isn't illegal attempt to your acct and try print SC

I just found my old account I had set up when EMO was available thru IntGold site.
I couldnt remember my password, so I selected the lost password link.
It directed me to a few questions, then finally said I must call them to have password reset.
Then, I remembered my password, and accessed my account to find all is in order.
I now have the Secure Card for login, Works fine.
Now I need to order myself an EMO debit card .... $9.95 plus $49.00 for International Shipping !!

Im hoping this will be my simple solution to retrieving monies from the internet easily once all is set up.

So far, I like the feel of the website very much. And it will be good for me to be able to exchange egold to and from my debit card.

Fingers crossed smile.gif
