Hi, I am from Singapore. It's a small country located in Asia, just below Malaysia. We have always been termed as Clean and Green city because of the cleanliness (seldom see litters around in the streets) and also lots of trees around the streets.

Do visit Singapore if you are coming over to Asia, I am sure you will like it. Cheers! happy.gif

Hi everyone, I guess I should summarise some facts about singapore. I am from Singapore and I am proud of my country.

We are a tiny island country 1 degree north of the equator, at the southern tip of the Malaysia Peninsula, about 710.2 square kilometres (for my friends in US, it is about 274.2 sq miles) and still growing (yes, we reclaim lands from the sea every day, and had grown about 100 square kilometres over the past 30 years). We are home to about 4 million Singaporeans and many other foreigners from all over the world. We live mainly in high-rise apartments known as HDB flats, and also quite a good portion of condomiums and land properties for those who are wealthier.

Our main ethnicity includes the Chinese, Malays, Indians, and Eurasians. Our National Language is English and Malay, while our official languages are English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil. All Singaporeans have to learn English as their first language and their respective mother tongue languages based on their ethnicity. Besides having multi-ethnicity and multi-language, we are multi-religious with the nine major religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Taoism, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Jainism; and several other minor religious groups. Despite all this diversity, Singaporeans had learnt to live peacefully with one another due to our strong attachment to our national pride.

Regardless of race, language, or religion, all Singaporean male citizens upon the age of 18 have to serve National Service in the Army, Navy, Airforce, Police, or Civil Defence Force for a compulsory two years conscription. The legal volunteer age for joining the Armed Forces is 16.5 years old. After the two years, every males will be placed in the reserve force where they had to serve about 10 years of reserve duties for 2 to 4 weeks per year. Despite our small armed forces size of 72,500 active personnel, and up to 400,000 reserve personnel, our armed forces is strongly equipped with advanced, state-of-the-art war machines. Our most recent 24 F-15SGs Fighters had just joined our airforce 400 other aircrafts, had boasted Singapore air superiority in our region. We also owned submarines and stealth frigates that guard our coasts.

What's fun in Singapore? Singapore is a popular travel destination, making tourism one of its largest industries. We have about 10.2 million in 2007. There are two casino resorts (aka Integrated Resorts, that's what we locals call them) currently ready in Sentosa and Marina Bay (This are world-class resorts and a must-visit place!)

Also, Singapore is known as a 'Food Haven'.Due to our multi-ethnicity, we have dishes of Chinese, Malay, Indian, Eurasians, Japanese, Korean etc., and if you are worried about not used to our local food, you can safely dine in at thousands of franchise like Macdonalds, Carl Jr, Billy Bombers, Pizza Hut, Sakae Sushi, Manhattan Fish Market, New York New York, Swensens, etc. almost in every part of our country. We also host the Singapore Food Festival held every July to celebrate Singapore's cuisines.

For party lovers! We have the hottest night entertainments in town with many clubs and pubs for you to chill out, drink and get drunk, dance till you drop too!!!

This year, Singapore is proud to host the 1st Youth Olympic Games (do come over and join in the fun!!!) in August 2010. We have stadiums, parks and gardens, wonderful swimming theme parks, and our famous East Coast Park and beach for those beach lovers!

Overall, Singaporeans are friendly people and I hope that your folks have a better idea of my country now. If you do have any other questions about my country, I will be most happy to share more with you!

Singapore, also known as the Republic of Singapore, is located in Southeast Asia. It is an island state at the southern tip of the Malaysia Peninsula. It is one of the few remaining city-states in the world and the smallest country in Southeast Asia. It is a country of approximately 4 million people, governed by a party named PAP (People's Action Party) which took over the Singapore government in 1965. History. Singapore was known as Temasek, which was then governed by Malaysia. Sir Stamford Raffles then got the governance of Singapore from the rightful Malaysian Sultan Hussein, and developed Singapore into an important port in the trade between China and India. During World War 2, Singapore fell to the Japanese for two and a half years. It was then known as Syonan-to . After WW2, Singapore attempted to break free from British colonization, as many were unhappy with the British for being unable to protect Singapore. Singapore first achieved self internal governance and then the British gave up the external governance in terms of army etc later on. Singapore then went on to become a state of Malaysia, the new name of the former Malaya. Singapore achieved independence in 1965, after it broke out of Malaysia. Also, Twilight hottie Jackson Rathbone, was born there! Singapore is located in South-East Asia, south of West Malaysia, south of Java of Indonesia and east of Sumatra of Indonesia.

Singapore is in Asia,near Malaysia.
Singapore had been a part of various local empires since it was first inhabited in the second century AD. It hosted a trading post of the East India Company in 1819 with permission from the Sultanate of Johor. The British obtained sovereignty over the island in 1824 and Singapore became one of the British Straits Settlements in 1826. Singapore was occupied by the Japanese in World War II and reverted to British rule after the war. It became internally self-governing in 1959. Singapore united with other former British territories to form Malaysia in 1963 and became a fully-independent state two years later after separation from Malaysia. Since then it has had a massive increase in wealth, and is one of the Four Asian Tigers. Singapore is the world's fourth leading financial centre, and its port is one of the five busiest ports in the world. The economy heavily depends on the industry and service sectors.
