I have people telling me anout backlinks and text links and A-B-C links, and meta tags, among other things. Is it a combination of all these that get you a better rank? Or is it one primary thing? Any help would be appreciated.

I think from what I have deal with it is a combination of things. It is not just one thing.

You have to have all the pieces in place if you want to rate high in the search engines for popular keywords.

There is onpage seo and offpage seo

onpage is the things like the metaga tags that you mentioned. This would also include your content, and having a sitemap.

offpage seo is creating backlinks to your website. You want links from other high page ranking website. A text link is your keyword linked to your site - for example internet marketing tools

How to get backlinks:
1) Forum marketing. Place links your signature (just like you have done)
2) Article marketing. Write articles related to your niche and submit them to high page ranking article directories. Include links in the "about the author" section
3) Press releases. issue a press release about your website to sites like prweb

That is just for starters. It is a ongoing process.

according to dean hunt, nothing is more important than buzz around your site/blog.

I've heard that reciprocal linking doesn't do much to improve ranking these days (especially with google)...but rather one way links to your website are better to improve rankings. Has anyone else heard or read about this?

I can say only one thing:it's all about backlinks.You can optimize your site no matter how good,put good content,but if someone have a lot's of quality backlinks you have no chance.

And yes you're right it really is a combination of thins that get you a better PR... but don't try too hard to get a good PR cause google catches on to that and will give you negative PR.

Also don't forget about LSI and Silo structure. These are new and important factors in determining website rank in Google. You must write your content so that appears like it has a real human element to it. Google is starting to crack down on content that is trying to hard to be optimized and can tell if you are just trying to rank for a certain term.

LSI is simply writing your content so that it contains words that are related to your primary keyword as well as variations of the keyword. Having proper Silo structure is making sure that your website is setup and well organized with deep links, style sheets and tight categories with related content to each one.

Just building links and content is good enough for SEO, but when combined with these two things can produce very powerful search engine traffic and long term rankings.

Also i noticed on some keyword top results are sites which have tons of paid one way links.Somuch about new google policy which forbid such things.

Well! there are twenties of different methods and techniques which help in seo. But the most effective I found till now is get back links from pages with similar title.

Inlinks are not only judged by the title of the web pages. It also include the keyword density, the link density and a lot more. And most importantly, your anchor link text. Google keep tracks of all these in your web master tools.

Sure....actually Google analyze contents in different manner than manual user. There is always a relevancy of a page for particular keywords. As all that glitters is not gold.

Currently, ceteris paribus, the site owning the most powerful combination of quantity links and quality links ranks higher. The rest of SEO is mostly build in function of this basic formula.

I have to say backlink's are the way to go forum/email sig's, social network sites - careful not to over spam or you'll get your account locked. Blogs/articles about your site are always good. basic rule if your posting something somewhere you should have a link in there too your site.

along with all the classic Search engine submits, keywords optimisation and this of course been most effective if your content is written with your main keywords in mind.

You have to be careful when using this technique but it works really well. First create a blog at blogger.com with a title that is relevant to the content of the site you are promoting. Then post a keyword rich article in the blog with two links throughout back to your site. Then create 50 variations of that article at jetspinner.com. Then search out 50 different word press MU blogs and create a new blog with them. Then post each different article in each different blog with links back to your original blog. Don't link straight back to your site or it won't work... you have to link back to your blog. Keep doing this and you'll see amazing results.

there are tons of SEO techniques. I am certainly not an expert & consider myself a beginer at SEO optimization.

What worked immediately for me was " well though out topic headings" & using about 6-7 LSI keywords in each article. This did reduce the speed at which i churned out articles, but is well worth the extra effort.

I had spend a lot of time to for visibility of my health blog, Nothing seemed to work. As soon as i started posting well researched headings ( these are certainly not fancy ones), i started getting page 1 google presence at least for that page.

I think the major thing is getting a backlink from a reputable source.
Imagine getting a link froma major news agency to your site, that will establish you as an authority and the visitors will definitely come

You have to do a lot of things to get a success full website. You need links from other website with an high PR to your website but if you have a website with bad content you will have a hard time getting these links. If your content is good people will link to your site by them self. Also you need to optimize your website so you use the right tags that Google will like, like <h1> tags. It is also a good idea to have a sitemap, Google really likes that. The links on your website to other pages on your site are also very important. Because Google is ranking every page separately so Google is not giving one page rank to your whole website. So if the home page has a good PR it can be spread by placing internal links on the home page.
