Banned members now have a image under their usernames. This should make it easier to spot members whose posts should not be taken seriously. The majority of people that are banned from MMG are spammers, people with multiple accounts, and/or trolls and for this reason members should make sure to be cautious about taking their posts too seriously.

That will not be possible due to privacy regulations.

Banning is one thing, and it is the prerogative of the forum management. But to tell members to not take the banned member's post too seriously, and we can't tell you why because of privacy concerns, just take our word for it?
I'm like watsuuuup: I would like to know the reason, or at least which MMG rule or rules a banned member supposedly violated. Like most people, I prefer to make up my own mind about who or what I take seriously.
Surely a simple naming of the rule that was broken somewhere in the person's profile can't be a privacy concern? Especially given the first post here, where we are told officially what most banning offenses probably were?
For example, there was a hyip admin and a sports bettor banned recently. Many of us were wondering what were their offenses, since they were both highly regarded in their own circles, and their bannings came as a shock. Since we don't know what they supposedly did wrong, on what basis are we now supposed to dismiss everything they ever wrote? Because we are being told to?!
Most of us don't live in paternalistic societies where we are used to being told what to think about a given subject. Most of us would rather come to a conclusion on our own rather than have it handed to us, or at least have the choice to defer that right to others.
An official judgment without some of the evidence attached, or at least the laws that were supposedly broken, isn't always as reassuring to the public that the correct verdict was reached as the court would like it to be. For example, O.J. was found not guilty, but I still believe he did it, because I saw the trial and the evidence against him.

Read my post carefully; I never said every post made by banned members should simply be disregarded. Any memeber can choose to agree/disagree with any post they wish on MMG; I'm not making anyones mind up on anything. What I did say is that members should be extra cautious about taking posts by banned members at face value given the above reasons why most members are banned.
The staff here volunteers their time here to help keep the forum clean, not answer endless questions about every action or inaction. Since the very beginning this forum has always kept disciplinary actions private. If you feel someone has has been wronged, you can approach an administrator about it, or they can contest a ban themselves through the support desk. If it has gotten to the point that you don't feel you can trust any of the staff, you should probably find another forum.

I did read your post very carefully -- you did say "majority of people that are banned." Likewise my own reply, acknowledging this caveat, said "what most banning offenses probably were." I didn't think you said "every post," and I DID catch your full meaning.
And I really didn't think my questions were endless, but I do consider them to be valid ones. The purpose of my reply was not to plead the case of any banned members, but to use the legitimate member confusion surrounding their dismissal as an example, to illustrate the helpfulness of text such as "Banned: Spamming," or "Banned: Multiple IDs." Just something like that, to give the rest of us something to go on as we make up our own minds about how seriously to take them, nothing more bothersome. Discipline may have always been done in the dark before, but that's what improvement is all about.
And for the record I do appreciate the long hours donated by a volunteer staff, I didn't say I distrusted ANY staff (at least, any more so than I distrust people online in general), and I am quite satisfied to have MMG as my primary forum-home. I didn't think a reply to something I found offensive, a reply that didn't drip with praise, was a negative indication on either count.
The bit about not taking banned members seriously (repeated twice) DID rub me the wrong way, and it's the primary reason why I wrote my reply, truth be told. I know certain banned members whose posts were always VERY worthy of being taken seriously, and whose bans were likely to do with factors OTHER than the quality of their posts. It seemed to me to be a gratuitous commentary made after they could no longer defend themselves, a "speaking ill of the dead" sort of a thing, history getting written by the victors, going well beyond the scope and need of the graphics announcement. That was the source of my emotion.
I am NOT interested in leaving MMG, and it's an unintended product of my post that you saw fit to suggest I'd be happier elsewhere. Of course, removing me for disagreeing with you is always within your power as Admin. But I hope you will not.

Yeah haha, just follow the trail of their posts, that usually does the trick . If they run a program, you can typically assume they have multiple usernames, scammed, etc etc.
I think having the banned image is a great idea , definitely sticks out. Thanks!

Here's my question. After getting banned, you wouldn't be able to post anymore, right? So what's the real use for the "Banned" sign? Yes, I do agree that it's nice looking but what's the real purpose?
He's banned and won't be able to use it anymore. Don't understand the real use only.

Not only that, is also to tell that, that member will no longer be active in the forum. So you are sure you are not getting a reply from him/her
