Don't they do that when a baby is born or was that a urban legend I was told? huh.gif
Yippee
They don't do it much anymore, but some doctors still do. They slap them on the bottom or the back in order to make them cry so they clear out their throat and lungs. Now they usually use the suction thingy to get the fluid out.

Any news yet on the NEW wee one?
maza
Hi guys biggrin.gif
Thanks on the good wishes.

It was all really shocking and I was like this shocking.gif for a long while that goes from the moment I opened this thread until right about now shocking.gif

This is our second one. So we re not first timers. But oh boy was I not prepared for what happened. Contractions started hapenning every 5 minutes so we were headed to hospital. By the time we were in the car, they were every 3 minutes, by the time we got to the hospital they were every 1 minute (we live 3 blocks away of the hospital) and by the time we got to the delivery room it was all one big contraction. No time for our doctor to arrive on time, no time to ask for some aneasthetic drug, no time for my wife to even lie down in her bed. We walked in the room and 30 seconds later she had our baby. She was still standing up. I was like, hey, this can't be happening. This contraction will go away and then she'll lie down and we'll get some order into this chaos. Nope, baby was in a hurry to get out and out she came just like that.

I'm still shocking.gif

Then, we were waiting to go home (after 1 hour of having arrived to the hospital screwy.gif ) and blood results came and stated that baby had high bilurrubin level. So we had to put her on the lamp crying.gif I was so shocked and angry and sad to seeing her there all by herself and I think I might have been a jackass with some of the nurses/doctors, but I hope they can understand me blush.gif

Now she is still in the lamp, bilirrubin levels went a bit down which is great, and we still don't know how many days she'll have to stay like this. Her mummy is breatfeeding her every 3 hours so it's not like she doesnt have any warmth and love coming her way anyways.

What sucked though, is that we still didn't introduce her to her bigger sister. We thought the sight of a little baby inside a plastic chamber and glowing all blue could be somewhat impressive for a toddler.

Anyways, that's news for now. I hope we can get her home soon. Her name is Petra for those who asked. I really want to have her home. See you later
ellmer
Congratulations on the birth of Petra. What a pretty name biggrin.gif .

It all sounds very traumatic for you.

Bilirubin is what a substance produced by the breakdown of red blood cells and hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.

High amounts of bilirubin causes jaundice but it's not uncommon in newborns

Hi guys. Things were looking better today. Bilrubin levels were a bit lower. Fingers crossed tomorrow will be even lower smile.gif I'm exhausted, going to sleep.

I'm barely in contact with the outside world these days but I heard about the new terrorist attacks.

censored2.gif , is all I have to say about that
maza
Well, they took all lamps off. She's all by herself now and hopefully will be home by tomorrow. Don't want to celebrate yet...
