Personally I think Post Count brings more trouble than benefits, if a user as 3,000 posts that doesn't mean that user had 3,000 quality posts, probably a dim 10% would've worth of reading. Also people would try to attack you in certain threads that you're building up post count! Besides post counting could be seen as a sign of veterancy when it's not...

What do you think people of MMG?

nothinggirl
why not? it really doesn't mean anything anyway..you can always look and see how long someone's been a member if you want to...plus check their posts if you want..might would stop some of the useless post count building that goes on around here so much..

Just a thought, but if it doesn't mean anything, there is no harm in keeping it there.

Personally, I think join date is also pretty meaningless. There are lots of "veterans" that can't pick a good program for the life of them. That said, some people like to use post counts to help measure how much time someone has spent participating on a site. Does that equate to more knowledge? Not necessarily. It may not be an entirely accurate metric, but it isn't entirely inaccurate either.

I'd also argue that, for the most part, "post builders" are trying to get their signatures seen, not inflate their post counts.

i look at it this way, its not how long you've been here, but what you've contributed in the time you've been here.

Personally, I feel that a forum is a place where people share their thoughts, in the case of moneymakergroup, their thoughts over HYIP, autosurf, etc. I got to admit that it's also a great place of advertising.

If people however choose to believe, or trust someone in the forum with large amount of post, or just because they join early in the MMG, its fine with me, but if those people are unfortunately scammed in the end, consider a lesson learnt.

Trust someone by their character and personality, not by the amount of posts made or how early they join MMG.

Eliminating post count will reduce your work load, think about it, the quality of content in MMG will increase.

I think that will do nothing to reduce the amount of spam. The spammers will still spam. The ones looking to increase their post count will still post even if their post count is not shown.

It might reduce a very small minority of posters from building up a post count for the sake of having a high post count.
KingOfQueens
if you remove the post count i would not be suprised if people start posting there own post count in there sigs..lol

lol that's probably true..

p.s. Radmax, personally it makes no difference at all to me either way...keep em, leave 'em..Scotto's right..people will still spam and probably would try to build a post count even if there wasn't one..then most likely go open threads saying "where is my post count?"...
KingOfQueens
instead of post count maybe we can have meters and people can click them to give us good karma or bad karma..lol

I agree with you, in fact MMG could do a post rating just like spikedhumor.com.
ScottoGato
I think many sites have tried to implement karma, and it just seems to be a very difficult task. I've seen a lot of good programmers try and mess around with a karma mod, but it just ends up with more of a problem.

As far as showing the post count, I think it gives members a little more information on the posting style of the member. I think there was a member that was eventually banned who actually built up over a couple thousand in a month or two.
Radmax
That has happened several times. Just because someone has a bunch of posts does not mean they are above the rules , and if they continue to ignore our warnings to stop, they will be shown the door.

I definitely agree that people shouldn't trust people due to their post count, but that is more a psychological problem rather than something inherently wrong with displaying post counts.
RisingSun
I also agree with that people spam for their signature.
Even if the post count is removed, their signature is just seen.
And I doubt you would want the signatures to be removed, lol!
