Hi everyone,

Maybe not all of you are aware of this but for the last 4 to 5 days, Jakarta (the capital city of Indonesia) is flooded very, very, very heavily and is going through almost unimaginable condition. You can see the news here and keep updated :

PLEASE, READ :

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/02/0...s.ap/index.html

www.thejakartapost.com

More details on : http://www.thejakartapost.com/city.asp

and some of them are even staying at a cemetery(!) : http://www.thejakartapost.com/detailcity.a....C02&irec=1

The floods completely paralized the city and millions of people suffer heavy losses. I'm from Indonesia but I'm not directly affected as I live about 80 miles away from the capital but I have a lot of relatives and friends who are heavily affected as they work in Jakarta and some of them have more their families in Jakarta.

For the last four days, I've been contacting or still trying to contact them (some of them are unreachable). Phones were down but getting better, email is no good at all. What I've been trying is to send them some funds from myself and the people who want to help, by one way or another. But I have to say that they could use some more help as I'm not having enough for everyone and it's kind of difficult to decide who gets what and who is next in line, etc. Haven't had a good sleep for the last couple of days. The sad truth is, unlike with the flooding which is also happening in Australia, Indonesians can not rely on the government for help. I know the local Red Cross organization and volunteers are doing a lot of work.

I'm wondering if there are people on this forum willing to help, no matter how little it is. I have someone who is giving me cash immediately for any amount of e-gold I could send him, so that we do not have to wait for out-exchangers which takes too much time. I can then send the cash to the people instantly by local bank transfer and they can get it from the nearest ATM which is still working.

For what it's worth, thank you everyone for reading this.

I don't have any e-gold to donate Conan, but I truly am saddened and upset by the floods in Jakarta.

Here in Australia we have good coverage of the events there.....I saw one poor little toddler using an inflatable dinghy as a bed.

It is so tragic, and I feel for everyone having to go through it. It is nature at its worst, and I fear there is alot more tragedy of this sort to come throughout the world sad.gif

I feel for your country Conan, I've seen in TV people struggling and feel that they
are in need for our help.

But, with no offense to you Conan, I would rather give the money to Red Cross.
This way I would be more certain that the money went for it's purpose and
not in someone's own businesses.

But it's in everyone's own judgement.

To Bannerspot, thank you.

To Nenumphar, none taken. The problem with Red Cross in Indonesia is too much red tape/bureaucracy going on, while the government is corrupted and therefore, unreliable. My relatives and friends in Jakarta has never run into Red Cross until today. I guess there are too few, and help is too little and too late. So everybody is pretty much on their own. Don't take my word for it, read the news and footage from TV and you will see what I mean and how bad things are.

I am trying to help the people I know directly so that they could buy food and clean drinking water immediately. The prices of food and clean water have risen up dramatically due to severe shortage everywhere.

Gotta go now,

Conan

Kannie, Bannerspot,

Unfortunately I do not know how to assure you as I am just trying to help only the people I personally know and I can't be online that much. However, you do NOT have to do this, and if you have some other way to help, please do it. Or if you just don't feel like donating anything to anyone, your prayers alone are enough.

For what it's worth, thank you anyone for reading this,

Conan

I'm seriously thinking that Redcross should accept e-gold or at least paypal.
Personally gathered donation in online forum is not accountable.

Our prayers with the victim.
