Full Version: BEWARE of people asking for exchanges via PM

ASFx
I wanted to let everyone know that you should be careful about people who send you a PM asking you for a currency exchange. It's dangerous to exchange with people that do that especially if you don't even know them.

If you receive an unsolicited PM (personal message) from anyone asking for a currency exchange or anything else suspicious, PLEASE let me or another moderator/admin know immediately! You will help us keep MMG free from scammers.

Someone just Pm me to exchange picpay for egold and wanted me to send first, guess what? he has 5 posts

He has been ban. Do not trust people easily. There is no free lunch in this world.
They might even gain trust like cheating saying they always trade with Jason and other mods...
Do not believe them smile.gif

Wanted You To Send First - Something Real Fishy
drewkj
How bout this scenario lol
I PM someone and send them $5 paypal for $5 e-gold but I send first and they have more then 100 posts but I only have 10 posts. Could people do that?
ASFx
The basic rules is: Do not PM anyone to ask them for currency exchange unless you know them personally. Otherwise you must use the currency exchange section and if you don't have enough posts to use the currency exchange section, then you have to wait until you have enough posts.
drewkj
by the way how much do i need to use it.

hopefully that 250 posts won't be based on "hehe..." and "haha..." posts, got what i mean? harhar.gif

why not? 200 posts like "hehe" and "haha" can give me very good information about this person

I usualy check the member #.
It lets me know how long they have been around the MMG forum. There are some out there that will post anything to get enough post to get into the "exchange".

OH Yeah! Check the join date too. I wouldnt want to do an exchange with a member who just joined a few days ago even if he/she had 500 post.
TeamAaronShara
All,

Beware of the new "Trick" . If you have any of your Instant Messenger info in your profile here...You will get a message from people saying that they saw your ID on MMG. Most of the time without even saying "Hello" they will try to introduce a exchange.

Be CAREFUL!

How do people with fewer than 250 posts get in to the exchange accounts? I see them there occasionally.

I posted an IntGold/PayPal exchange request once, and within 5 minutes I was PMd by someone with about 70 posts, saying he'd be happy to do an egold/paypal exchange. I guess he got that information from someone able to get into the exchange thread, but he wasn't even offering to exchange what I requested.

Just another note of caution.

Renee
ASFx
Renee, did you report that person to a mod?

Okay... I'm tattling on myself here and will prolly regret it, but I don't have anywhere near 250 posts and now, suddenly, I'm able to go into the exchange section shutup.gif

Heh, used to bug me to death to not know what was going on in there, but after having a little peak, it's not nearly as exciting as I'd hoped... harhar.gif
Mr. Jai Jai
Me too,

but, I can't make a post for an exchange...cuz a mod will close it.

I understand radmax, ya know, ofcourse those extra 70 posts I need to make will decide wether or not I'm a scammer or not... lol

I thought that there was a miminum to be able to post in the currency exchange forum but then one day I clicked on it and got in so I posted a currency exchange request but I added on there that if it was wrong for me to do it for the mods to delete and I was sorry. Got my answer about 2 minutes later when the thread was gone. I pm'ed someone who posted that they needed pp for egold and since I had pp and wanted egold that I wanted to trade. I guess the biggest difference between what I did and these other examples is that I said I would send first and did(this was about 2 weeks ago) but I won't do it again till I have 250 posts if the mods say it is wrong.
TeamAaronShara
Mr. Jai Jai,

Your right, but helps as we can follow a "pattern" persay.

Look at it another way there will always be criminals out there, and we are doing our best to stop them smile.gif

Lucky for you. i still have 200 plus posts more to go. Its gonna take awhile but the rule sure makes exchange here more reliable although not 100%.
Gonna work hard to produce some quality posts. smile.gif

I think it is a great idea to have a required amount of posts before allowing someone to ask for exchanges.

Although it does not eliminate the risk, it certainly helps since you are able to read the posts and can sort of judge the character of that member.

Yes, there is still risk, and yes, people can fool you through their posts, but everything helps.

Right now they can still see the section, but later when the new version of IPB comes out, I will make it so they cant see it at all.

But that limitation has nothing to do with the new update's features, right?
I recall it's possible to restrict access based on # of posts
ASFx
The ability to restrict access based on # of posts is not built into IPB. I woul dhave to modify the code. That's why i'd rather wait till 2.1.
kennethtan
The best and the most secure way is do the exchange in the exchange folder so that every forumers can aware of what is going on.

Some scammer did cheated my hard earn money before and now i learn from my mistake.

Well a workaround would be to assign everyone under 250 posts into a user group, then just restrict by user group

Right ... this way, the whole Currency Exchange's Thread could be made unvisible to the group with less than 250 posts.

hi, i understand this is done for the sake of people getting cheated, but what about people like me? my friend has been doing hyip for about 3 months now and now i want to get into it too. Im in singapore and am so unsure of the processess and loopholes. the londonexchange charges like 4% charge for changing the cash into egold. I was wondering if i could transfer the money via internet banking to someone in singapore first, then wait for him/her to transfer the e-gold back to my egold account. This way, there wont be cheating, as although i am juinor, the other guy is seinor than me..and i dont feel worried that seinor traders with 1000 to 3000 posts will run away with my money. it is the juinor who are likely to be cheat, like you were mentioning..those with few posts..

I can meet up personnally with any trader in singapore, to show proof..
BTW im in government job so cannot run... smile.gif

Well if the dude is from S'pore, no issue right. Just meet for a Kopi at a central place with internet access or something, do the transfer at the ATM and transfer the E-GOLD.
I'm sure online business doesn't mean you cannot get out the house for some fresh air.

That's true... we all can make do with a bit of fresh air a few minutes a day at least screwy.gif

alexeow
The problem is not everybody live at or near the same place. It is difficult to take a bit of fresh air as what you have suggested. tongue4.gif

Beware!! Get $8 stormpay for sending me $6 egold!!

Scammers online no way....say it isn't so dry.gif

I have run into people like this. In fact a freelance site someone had the gawl to post that they wanted to have someone open a Pay Pal account for them so they could use it. Interesting people out there...sad thing is that someone bid on it... doh.gif

-As a side note, I wanted to thank the admin if MMG for watching over this forum so closely. It is a real testament to the folks running the show.

Great Job! thumbup(1).gif
