OK. Totally MMG off topic! My daughter is in a contest for the FLorida Super Singer and they have it on the Florida cable station 300 with Brighthouse...or rather they are supposed to have the contestants on there today, but it hasn't shown up yet as of 3:30 PM. However, they are accepting votes for the best singer even though it isn't up yet! Someone already has 536 votes and it isn't even on the tv yet! So, it's really a popularity contest right now. These votes don't determine the winner, but it sure would make me feel wonderful if my friends would get on and vote for Joyce Parker from Edgewater. You all are the VERY BEST! How can I thank you? People can say what they want about relationships being formed online, but I have made some really really good friends here and I count all you among them!

The voting isn't done yet, but I don't think we'll be able to pull off getting past the top 2. They are amazing! They have been racking up votes upon votes. They must have friends staying on the computer 24/7! But, that's ok! Joy has done FANTASTIC!

actually....she did a not too smart thing...I'm not worried about posting her pic because anyone can post pics..channel 6 posted it! I post them in my family site..( one that I let the hosting expire ) so I don't worry about that with stalkers or anything..but she put her phone number on the Facebook page and someone texted her all the way from Serbia!!!!! She has her first groupie! I know that it has to be someone from here, because I posted the Facebook link until I realized she had done that. (It's off now, so I could post it again)

Hi Linda I was just strolling around the lonely threads on MMG when I stumbled across this thread.

I didn't know it existed.

But I do do quite a bit of voting as you contacted me early in the piece.

I certainly hope Joy does well. The exposure won't do here any harm in her career. There can only be one winner, so please tell her not to be dissappointed if she dosen't win. She conducted herself well, and in my experience in life, quite often the ones who actually don't win end up with better options. If you know what I mean.

I will stay tuned for the results, and I wish you and your lovely family success in whatever they do.

And Dorky! Glad you found your way over here! I've just started looking around the forum myself to see what else it offers than our usual haunts...
Joy will be disappointed for sure if she doesn't win...she really could use that car! I try not to think of the exposure too much..although I know it's there. They told her that more than likely she would be contacted by agents, etc but they were protecting her privacy and they would come through the station. I really don't want this life for her..but it's all glamour and fun to her right now...we'll see.
As far as the disappointment, she knows that she's done pretty good to make it this far already (top 23 of 1600!). She also knows that some of the other contestants are really really good, so I don't think it will hurt her too bad......I hope not anyway.....

well..this momma has had a rough day today.

Joy made the top 10 but that didn't move her up at all in the contest. I do thank everyone for their votes and support! She did ok with the news, but if she intends on pursuing this as a career, she'll have to get used to being rejected. I've tried to tell her that good singers are really a dime a dozen anymore. Lots of people are really really good. That isn't saying she isn't, because she is, but so were the others in the competition.
The ones that won were all ones that I would have picked (besides Joy ) as well. The big difference between them and Joy is that they sang songs that gave them more of an opportunity to show a lot of body expression. She sang "Jesus Take the Wheel" which really wasn't a song with so much facial expression body expression. She knew before singing it that she had picked the wrong song, but it was too late to change it.

Oh well. I'm just glad it's over!

I won't even go into the other children issues I faced today...adult children are soooo much harder than babies....

But again, thanks so much! You are all great!

I am sorry that Joy didn't win, however she has had a great experience in life. Also she has had great exposure. Now she will have to work on other avenues to persue this career choice.

Don't give up singining Joy, I thought you were fantastic. I am sure other feel the same. This won't be the last we here of Ms. Joy Parker.

Well Linda, you certainly are a great mother standing right there beside your family. Even though deep down you probably didn't approve. Life goes on. Remember we only get one walk through, so we have got to give it our best shot. That also goes for Joy, at least she has experienced this. Many others will never have accomplished just what she has to date.
