Hey guys i just added a shoutbox to my site.. it doesnt really need 1 as it isnt the kind of site for people to hang out.. but do u think its a good idea so people can leave quick success stories and links?

i don;t think is a good ideea....will lead to more spam

pretty good idea.. as long as you make sure people are unable to post urls in their messages

easier than setting up a guestbook

too many members here for a shoutbox. scammers will use it instead of buying banners. maybe if you could make it just show in the general chat but not for the whole forum

If you cant control it, they will troll it.

Yup I agree. In fact for many blogshop uses shoutbox bascially for spamming their own blogs. Not many are used for chatting unless your website is a personal one and very low viewership else be prepared for spamming of urls.

it's not a bad idea either as its another easy way to communicate with your site members. But it will also lead to spam....

It's not a good idea to put shoutbox.. just wait for a moment, if your site is had more crowded, your shoutbox will full of spam

A good idea would be a shoutbox, which can be edited only by the mods, and we could read only the real intresting news. But in this case you could call it a newsbox

thanks for the feedback guys/girls.. i decided to get rid of the shoutbox. my site isnt really a comunity bassd site i just poped it on there for people who purchased the product and i wanted to see what they thought. it did work but i did get spammed.
o well trial and error
