I believed the day will come but not as terrible as your friend said. It might have some drop because of our RM value up compared to USD. But temporary RM still fixed in RM3.80 to $1.00 USD currently and in my opinion can stand for another 6 months or more.
Who knows what will happen after 6 months?

Actually is it better or worse if US dollar value drops for us?
Since I can get 1USD with RM3.50(from other sources) or less..

The US dollar has been dropping since Bush took office. It seems to be getting better though.

It's just a rumour.
We won't know whether the ringgit will appreciate or depreciate against the US dollar.
If there's going to be any changes:
It depends on which side you are. If you currently holding on to some US dollars you might either win or lose when the US dollar depreciate or appreciate against the Malysian Rinngit respectively.
Personally I'd love to see the US dollar appreciate against the Malaysian Ringgit, period.

How about Singapore Dollars VS Malaysia Ringgit?
Yesterday I went to change SGD to RM at a local Money Changer. It is currently 1 SGD = 2.8925 RM
I hope it will become 1 SGD = 3 RM soon! If that happens, more Singaporeans will go to Malaysia for holiday.

Malaysia vs Singapore dollar is consistently float around
SGD1=RM2.2 - 2.3 (not 2.8 as per claim)
Have no idea why would a local Singaporean money exchanger willing to sell SGD1 to RM2.8. If they do, we can make lots of money from forex!

my opinion is that it is not going to drop anytime soon... there were very strong speculative play on all pegged currencies - starting with the USD/CNY that there would be a repeg or revaluation considering the poor performance of the USD viz a viz all the other major currencies...
that sentiment has changed over the last 2 weeks or so as traders decided to cut losses/take smaller profit in the CNY by unwinding their positions. Even in Malaysia, there was some reversal of hot money as they unwound positions in equity n exchanged the MYR back to USD. analysis also shows that perhaps the USD/MYR may not even repeg on the back of a USD/CNY revaluation since it is only about 5-10% undervalued, compared to >10% for the CNY.
so just go ahead and do what u want with your USD and MYR... my prediction is for no changes for this year... but we all know how fickle some govts can be...

It is indeed CNY (or RMB) "might" not peg against USD, but it won't happen to soon. US commercial is pressuring RMB for re-evaluation so their (US) investment made in PRC have higher return.
However the drawback if PRC is taking this pressure for granted, many most job losses and the poorer people become more poor. If you've been to PRC (Beijing as being most obvious), there's like no middle class. It is very distinguish to see the lower and upper class. As you might know also, PRC banks or so call commercial banks are "funded" by the goverment to keep local organization going and going even they are making losses. So you can see here, PRC will not revalue their currency, not at least USD is stable at this quater.
What about MYR? Well, sources said that MY will follow PRC. In this case, I guess we stay where we stand.

Our PM in the recent newspapers has stated that the value will NOT be changed regardless of what China is doing to its Yuan. So this may be good news for those who are receiving USD and still ok for those who gonna invest in USD. Nothing will CHANGE!

the day that happens then i will wanna be paid in euros or aussie
nothings going to happen to the USD/MYR and USD/CNY peg. The USD has gained back some lost ground in terms of value over the past few weeks. The pressure is off for now.
