You are simply betting on a horse to lose rather than to win. If there are 10 horses in a race 9 will be losers so statiscally it is much easier to pick a loser than a winner. The betting exchanges like betfair now make it possible to lay (bet on) horses to lose, which essentially makes you the book maker. You can read more here and sign up for their FREE newsletter and get their pick once a day, which I use and have consistently made money from.

So how much can you make? Depending on your stake I think you can expect about 10-40%/month non-compounding even more compounding.

For example that last site claims about 32%/month for the last year non compounding using their staking system. Turners lay tips, the one I use, has similar results on average since August.

The beauty here is that you can make as much as the financial markets, but it's simpler and cheaper to get into for the small player than say something like Forex and stocks. Is there risk? Absolutely any true investment vehicle has some risk attached to it, but if you use a staking plan the risk is minimal.
