Just thought this was an interesting topic. With ICANN ready to allow a whole assortment of custom extensions like .coke, .money, .stocks, etc, will .com remain the king of the domain extensions? Will the increase in extensions only mean that .com's will hold more value, as confusion makes anyone trying to goto for instance "Unitedstates.banks" type in Unitedstatesbanks.com? Or will the variety of extensions means the value .com would decrease since there is a larger supply of domains to choose from. These are all questions any domain investor must ask. The fact that all the major companies still use .com's at least here in the United states, I believe .com's will remain king, and likely benefit from the confusion of all the elaborate extensions which may come into play.

Opinions?

[dot]com will always will be the king because in everybody's minds .com is the best to have (some directories only accepts .com domains, some web tools can manage only .com domains...etc)! top world websites have the "com" extension!

I think .com will always be the top dog. .net and .org also can hold a lot of value. I think there is a lot of money to be made in individual country top level domains as you can still find premium names available.
