Google adsense is by far the best bang for your buck if you know what you are doing. and need highly targeted traffic. As for bulk traffic, I know Buycheaptraffic.net is fairly good if you want general traffic via pop ups.

probably a combination of adsense and cpa offers. Maybe some affiliate banners.

Adwords, if utilized correctly can bring in loads of targeted traffic. If you know what you are doing, you can never go wrong with adwords.

For free traffic, backlinking - which can be ongoing task. Then social bookmarking, link exchange, articles distribution. This may take lot of time, effort and patience though.
