I've got some nice domainnames. I could sell them, but it seems there's a market for renting out. I wonder how you guys feel about that. Would you buy a domain for $xxxx ? Or rather rent it per month on a $xxx basis?

From a buyers point of view you don't want to establish a domain name and not own it. I'd never rent a domain simply because you have no control over your business. The owner could up the rent depending on how successful the domain becomes, hence taking you out of control.

Hmz you got a point there. Cause I was having a looking at a particular domain myself, and they offered it to me for $4000ish, or I could rent if for $100 a month. Smart pitch really, of course I would rent it then ... which is how I got the idea in the first place. But it does make sense the price could increase over time.

From your side of the fence I could definitely see how renting out a site would be very profitable. From a buyer's perspective, I totally agree that renting a domain name would be inferior to purchasing one.
I guess renting would be good for establishing a DIFFERENT site or building a faux online reputation with the rented domain, but I can't see it leading to anything significant.
it is no secret that the right choice in domain name makes all of the difference and people are willing to pay big bucks for that opportunity.
I suppose I don't see the point of renting, but crunch the numbers and go with what is more profitable for you. It is your domain after all.
Cheers!

Try as I may, I could not find a compelling reason to rent a domain. What would happen to my business which I built on the domain when the owner decides to stop the rent agreement?
