Hi, everyone. I've been researching website flipping for a few weeks now and it sounds quite interesting, but I'm confused as to certain aspects of it.

From what I understand, a person can purchase a domain name, and build a website around that name, or they can purchase an already slightly successful website, and build it up from there with the traffic it's already receiving.

My question is, if I went ahead and bought an already built website from someone that wished to sell it because of personal reasons (I'm guessing this is the main reason why a website owner would sell a website that is seemingly successful), and built it up enough to significantly effect the amount of revenue it was receiving in a good way, then what would be the point of me selling it if I'm making money from it?

Another one of my questions is, is website flipping a hobby, a way to make money on the side, or can a person flip websites for a living? It seems to me that to successfully make money from a flipped website, you really need to have the time, such as months, to build it up and actually sell it for more than it was previously worth.

Any information on those questions would be greatly appreciated.

I think you could make money in just about anything so long as you are prepared to do the work. It is not good 'playing' with the idea. You need to put a plan down on paper and then get it done. If it does not work, then you can try something else.

Sometimes people sell because they want to get a full year's of income from the site.

They can take that money and launch 12 new sites, once they have a successful step-by-step recipe down.

Also sometimes, people sell because they know the industry is downtrending.
