Tax reason's is the main key for a offshore hosting.
Uncle Sam can runaway with the server if he like :-p

As long as your doing multiple daily offsite back ups to another server or at least downloading to a local machine and archiving on disc (which you should be doing anyway) you shouldn't have a problem with your server being switched off for any reason.

Also I have used U.S. colocations for years without any concern, I guess it depends if your website complies with fair trading regulations.

I believe the most important factor with a host is instant telephone support to technical engineers when there is a problem.

If you cant talk to an engineer within 60 seconds you have to ask what kind of host are they, we all know that even if a site goes down for an hour people start to get nervous and start to panic posting negative messages sending a shockwave of uncertainness about the professionalism of your program.

DDoS Mitigation is also a number one priority, if you get your program to any level of volume then you can guarantee you will attract an attack.

For these two reasons alone I would suggest a U.S. host, if your worried about tax then I would suggest talking to someone about having your company and bank accounts in offshore country that doesn't report back home.
