Having lots of money in itself doesn`t make a person happy. But, it has to be admitted that not being able to pay one`s bills can be a source of great unhappiness.

In general, having money is by far happier than not having money. It is nice to be able to buy stuff like nice cars and houses and not worrying about bills AT ALL.
However, having been there, I can honestly say that having a lot of money (million$) can bring more unhappiness than having under $1 million.
In retrospect, it seems like you could step back and rationalize how to handle it, but when you are living it, you tend to have to deal with too much (too many houses in multiple states, where does your mail go? who is maintaining/watching the empty houses?, etc), then when you sell stock/investment and have capital gains, each state declares that you owe them for 100% of the capital gains, -- more anguish and hassles.
Now I run cooltrade robotic traders from one single location and periodically use logmein to connect and see how they are doing, so all transactions take place from one location only, sold off the extra houses (no more worries).
Excessive wealth and early retirement are not all as nice as people think!
