QUOTE (Hathor @ Nov 18 2009, 12:59 PM) *
I'm in England and I haven't had the vaccination. The hysteria about it has very much died down here, although as far as I'm aware medical staff are having the vaccinations as a matter of routine. Actually I don't know anyone outside of the healthcare industry who has voluntarily had the vaccine.
I know 3 people who've had the H1N1 virus, they were all adults aged over 35 and all were ill for about 4 days. The general consensus from them is that they felt rather poorly but only as the same as any other flu.
The worst effects of it seem to be for seniors, younger people (under 25's) and pregnant women, as I said outside of those parameters people who get it do feel pretty rough for a few days but they're making a full recovery.

I agree, I really don't know why they are creating this kind of hype about H1N1.
The common Seasonal flu kills about 250,000–500,000 people per year worldwide, the swine flu caused 7,296 deaths so far (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic). So it is about 70 times more dangerous too catch the "good old" common flu than the "fancy" new one. (I really should have bought GlaxoSmithKline and Roche stocks.)

The Government has today announced that the vaccine will be offered to all children under 5 years old. Parents can decide whether or not to go ahead with it.

I think this whole flu thing (avian, swine) is a global pharmaceutical companies conspiracy.

I'm in a little town of Italy, and I think we all have got the H1N1 flu, I didn't do analysis but some people in my town were to the hospital and they were told that it was swine flu. All the members of my family have had some fever one or two days and that's it. I think everybody is doing this flu bigger than it actually is.

I agree with you and with the posters just before you.

Hundreds of millions of these vaccins are being sold these days: big business for sure!
The'normal' flu during wintertime kills the weakest, so does the swine flu... not much of a difference.

I guess the vaccin won't do much harm but it has been developed quite rapidly: do scientists already know all side effects yet?

They just announced on the news here that a 'new strain' of the flu is active, and it's resistant to Tamiflu...
I'm really not sure what to make of this.

Hi Guys,
sorry for interrupting your discussion about swine flu, but I really need an answer about Lionbridge. The question is this "How much does it take to receive the exam materials after you have completed the questionnarie? I have completed the questionnarie on Thursday afternoon. and I also sent them an e-mail with my gmail account as they say in FAQ.doc , because they want to verify it. Normally how much does it take to receive the exam matirials starting from the day I filled the questionnarrie?
Please I need an answer.
Greeting from Albania

Hi Andi

To be honest it could take from a few hours to a few days (and as far as I can make out weeks from some of the posters here on this forum)! I think much is to do with time zones and what day of the week it is - obviously they don't work over the weekend!

It's good to here that they are still recruiting. They have laid off many of my UK colleagues - I'm still here by luck more than judgement I think!! unsure.gif

If you haven't heard from them in a week - write them a friendly email!

Haven't they described the procedure after applying?

I believe it can take a couple of weeks indeed.

Hi Mafalda, I'm italian too. Are you still working with Lionbridge? If yes, do you have enough tasks to rate? They fired me last month after 3 years (always 4 and 5 quality stars)...

Ah! There ARE still some UK raters, then?! Wonder what percentage were laid off? The UK is clearly not a target market for you-know-who anymore.

Second week of not working for Lionbridge ... can't say I miss it (only the money!).

It was really strange Tinker! My tasks were blocked and I had to do the videos and "quizzes". For a week and a half I heard nothing from LB. On my task list page I have an alarm set up to alert me if I have any tasks available (very useful for when we had the NRT)! On Monday I heard it go "ting"! My tasks were unblocked - but no explanation from LB! On the Wednesday I had an email from LB stating:

"Dear UK Rater,

In an effort to improve the quality of ratings across all task types we will be keeping a much closer eye on all our Rater's work from now on....."

I am new to this. I have no idea why I am able to go on when much more experienced raters have been given the push. I am grateful though - even if it only for a matter of weeks before they change their mind!!

I'm from the UK and still working too!

I've only been working for LB for 3 months though, and I get the impression that most of the people that they laid off had been working for far longer than that. It does make you very nervous every time you get an email though!

Wow! I just got timesheet review for week 46. It says I did total of 52 tasks of type 7 during that week, while I actually did 656 of them! How do you like it??
