Maybe you could briefly explain the different types and the benefits of each of them.
I'm sure this would be valuable information to other members as well.

OK let me try ti keep this as simple as possible for the OP.
There are basically 3 major types of landing pages which are splash pages, squeeze pages and sales pages. Here's a basic description of them in a nutshell.
Splash Page: An introductory page serving as a lead-in to your actual landing page. The splash page usually contains catch images or animation or a short message. Just think of it like a short preview to the actual movie i.e. your website.
Pros:
- Can catch visitors attention quick, especially quick surfers like in traffic exchanges
- Can "prime" a person before they are redirected to your actual website, which may heighten their perception of your site
Cons:
- It is a block between your visitor and your "actual" landing page, so some visitors may bounce or leave your splashpage without clicking through to your site
- Some people just may not like them and they don't tend to get indexed by search engines
====
Squeeze Page: This is a page designed with the sole purpose of "squeezing" contact info from your visitor like name, email etc.
Pros:
- Great way to filter out interested and serious prospects to build your list
- Strategy can be used for marketing even if you don't have a website; you can communicate with your audience by email. However, it's would be a plus if you have your own website too.
Cons:
- Some visitors won't opt to give their personal information
- Typically it is a block between your actual website and/or offer, so some visitors may not ever see what you have to offer if they don't opt-in.
Sales Page: Just like it sounds. A page designed to sell a product or service. It is usually long, informative and covers all the features & benefits of your offer. There is no holding back here; you want your visitor to buy! Although a salespage is long, it is good to have various options for your visitor to click through and buy and various points.
Pros:
- Can sell and make money!
Cons:
- Some people won't buy
- Lot's of people hate reading salespages, especially long ones even if they're necessary
The above is just a brief guideline off the top of my head. There may be other important pros, cons, features and benefits that I haven't covered here. But this is basically key things you need to know about the different types of landing pages.
Building Landing Pages:It's always best to have full control over your landing pages/websites by purchasing your own domain name and hosting. Then you can build webpages and simply upload them to your server. Your hosting provider can instruct you further on this.
If you don't have the funds or just don't want to spend any money at this time, then yes, you can try doing free landing pages although they are not reliable and can be deleted at any time. You can attempt to build free landing pages on sites like Squidoo, blogger.com, Hubpages, wordpress.com, weebly, etc.
