Unbelievable! This is everything the previews hinted at and then a whole lot more. On the violence and gore scale, it makes SAW look like SNOW WHITE. There are some scenes in this beauty that haven't been shown on film before, and probably for good reason Plot is pretty good and the direction is top-notch. While the cast is no-name central, who cares? They are a big step-up from the usual Grade D actors in horror films and they sure do scream well You can see Tarantino's handprints on this one and of course there is the obligatory reference to earlier works, in this case, some peeps are watching TV in a hostel and PULP FICTION is on. The wide-open blood and action towards the end is definite Tarantino. Oh yeah, a lot of sex and drug use too in the first half of this movie where it kind of eases you into the mayhem that follows. After the first kill, you might be thinking that maybe HOSTEL is going to be a little tamer than the previews. Uh, no. By the end of the flick, you'll have seen extreme violence, tons of blood, a very high body count, and had a few gross-out laughs(or screams of disgust). The audience I attended this movie with was very into it with lots of screaming and OHHHHHH NOOOOOO along with some cheering. Awesome. While this one has a good story that is laid-out well, it is not on par with SAW in terms of originality and suspenseful *what the hell is going to happen next?* What it is instead is hyper-violence and just a real bloody mess that is not for the faint-hearted. Guys, the next time your chick nags you to watch a chick-flick or some lame romantic-comedy, AGREE to it on the condition she see HOSTEL Especially if you want to never see her again. If she liked SAW but thought parts were too gross, she will not be able to endure HOSTEL's second-half which is very extreme. I'm suprised this one didn't get chopped some(or more) by the MPAA because it definitely flirts with a NR in terms of the very explicit violence and gore. The torture is pretty psychological but quickly becomes a lot more. If you're a fan of horror and gore, this might be the best movie to come along since.. well, probably ever. For suspense and nerve-jangling, there are some movies that are better but none can match the gore and creative kills of HOSTEL. I give it 5 very bloody scapels! NUK

Saw the trailer and......no thanks.
Thought that you'd like it, NUK.
I love the camp craziness of Kill Bill vol.1 but torture of any kind is just too dark for me to watch. E.G. Watching Sophie Fatale get dismembered then rolling on the floor nearly made me pass out. It's hard enough at work with people missing chunks due to malignant tumour excisions.

I was lucky to have been invited to a screen review before the hype even started building. nobody knew much about it, and I was really surprised how good the story turned out, aside from the violence, which is not for tame at heart. And after about a half dozen people walked out, including a woman who started balling uncontrollably at the end of the flick, because they couldn't handle the unexpected, I new they had a winner on their hands
