I definitely agree here. Free domains will make your account temporary since sooner or later, it will start collecting and requiring payments. When this ting happens, your account will easily be erased.

Are there any domain registrars giving free domains at the moment? I know co.cc is free to register and works just like any other domain. Anyone know any others?

Just imagine you have opened the site, placed him on a free domain. And the owner of the domain is not you. After a while, you have the site receives visitors and profits. Suddenly, domain name takes the true owner, because it is not you own domain name. All the work and time into the furnace.
My advice, is not be greedy $ 10 a year for a normal domain name.
Unless of course you need it for a normal website, and not for the satellites, or other purposes. smile.gif

I want to update this thread by telling that co.cc no longer offering free domains, because this domain registrar no longers exists, you can better. However, there is new domain registrar offering free domains for 'cu.cc' . Check out their website by going to cu.cc

I'm sorry but I had very bad experience with dot.tk free domains, I had registered a specific domain under my name, but after few months my domain gets deleted some other owned the domain. I marketed this domain to earn traffic and in just few month they deleted my domain as well and give the owner's right to someone else. That's sad.

Although I agree with you that's sad, it's carefully explained in the TOS under what circumstances you lose the domain.

Ah well at the end of the day you only need 1 good domain, and just layer everything with directories or subdomains. And what you save in a few dollars in a domainname has to paid for hosting anyway.

Well all the $1 domains I bought last year are due to be renewed now. And that will be regular price. I guess it's a good strategy for the domain sellers.

Sometimes companies will offer free domains to hook you as a customer, or part of a package, like if you buy hosting, then the domain is free.

Right now there was a sale for 50 cent domains for .net but it's only a 1 day sale at Network Solutions.

Google heavily penalized the co.cc domain names. They are not worth much now due to the SEO penalty.
