I just got out of college and I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice...

Should I start investing in a 401(k) that doesn't have a company match, or a Roth IRA?

Thanks.

I would recommend a 401K, the company match is a huge benefit.

You need both.
Life can bring some strange things your way over the years.
Use both. Have a portion of your retirement in a Roth.
Taxes have never gone down but they ALWAYS increase.
How much are taxes now?
How much will they be when you retire?
Trust me they always go up.

If you have a Roth you pay the taxes NOW.
In a 401K you pay them when you withdraw and if something happens that is
unforseeable (Like real life is) and you need to withdraw from your 401K you are penalized and pay 20%.

With the roth, your money is your money.

Think about that.

That's true that taxes go up, but you also have to think about what tax bracket you are in now and what bracket you'll be in when you retire. If you are making a lot of money now, paying the taxes on it now may end up costing you more if later you're in a very low bracket. Also, deducting it now could even drop you a bracket. You can't look at the overall figures because you have to consider the time value of money.

Plus, the taxes you aren't paying now can save you more for the future. You should look at how much you are making. If you have a very low salary, you'd probably be better off paying the taxes now through a Roth IRA. When your salary increases, it might be a better idea to contribute most or all of your money to a 401K and pay the taxes when you have less income during retirement.

If you think you should do invest in a profitable business by establishing an offshore account, if you want to create a company could do likewise. This ensures you break free from the pressures of high taxes
