There are only quite a few who have made a popular name doing it alone but since there are tons of such sites out there, I think you should get listed. if you have videos, distribute it to those video sharing sites that allows so. But for a more feasible approach, why not request(or even pay) for a banner placement on a high traffic forum? This would be the way to go because after it's known as a "legit" site, people will keep coming back and your ads will do the work for you.
