Of those listed, I think the use of web blog and forum stand out because those are more likely to catch peoples' attention.

Just to add, I realised giving away freebies are definitely a way to bring visitors back to your site. Last month alone, I added 3 freebies for them to download. Intending to do this on a monthly basis.

I'm just about to launch a memberhsip site so, for me, the critical thing will be fresh, new content every month.

yeah updating frequently with more content keeps them coming but I also think if you are friendly and create a sort of friendly vibe people like that and it may attract them back to your blog!

I think the most important thing is the unique content. You can't go wrong with building constant and useful content. If you manage to do that, you"ll have new people coming in on all directions, through word of mouth, linkage, bookmarks etc. The content you write is what will keep readers coming back for more and share with their contacts. Make sure you add a tell a friend script on your website which makes it easy to share.
